Well, usually. Sometimes they prey on their own, when the mood strikes.
Yes, with a heavy sprinkling of debunked race science ie. white supremacy.
Darwin, in his exposition of survival of the fittest, wrote "civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace the savage races throughout the world"
Which was a culturally "normal" way of thinking in that part of the world at that time. Crazy that so much, and yet so little, has changed in 150 years.
