Hmm...maybe it's because one party denies science and views 60% of the country as subhuman, and the other party believes in science and equality? How the fuck are you supposed to reconcile those two?
This cartoon is relevant far too often.
It's easy - kill only half of the black people and the survivors get some civil rights.

It was supposed to be a little over half somewhere between 1/2 and 7/10..... that's why they called it the 3/5 compromise.
"ok we'll let you keep the anti-vax and climate denial, but give up the flat earth. For the subhuman, how about just 40% are subhuman. See, we compromise!!"
