  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I would very strongly suggest that you reconsider your stance on guns. You may not want to hurt other people to protect yourself, but there are surely other people in your community that need someone to stand with and for them. I think we all hope that the day never comes that it's necessary, but I think that the quote I heard was, "si vis pacem, para bellum."

I know a few people in the north Georgia area that are quite welcoming to new people. I can suggest at least one trainer out in Rome. There are a few gun stores that don't seem to be full of Trump shit. Unfortunately, I didn't ever get south of Atlanta, so if you're in e.g. Macon or Savannah, I don't know anyone directly.

BTW - I've heard him speak in person. I've seen how Platner dealt with MAGA hecklers. I think that his solutions are simplistic, because the system is wildly complex, but I think he's got the right ideas. If he's undercover as a Nazi, he sure as shit as me fooled.

Ah, I'm not arguing against having a gun as a progressive or anything, but part of me doesn't trust me with a gun. I probably won't have an issue, but I play with stuff a little too much. I have stabbed myself and slashed myself with knives. Not in a suicidal way; in both cases it was curiosity but I made sure to use somewhere safe (slash was not near any major veins or vessels and was light, stab was less intentional and was testing a safety function of the knife but went in a small bit on my leg).

I feel like I'll be careful enough, but 5% of me worries I'll play with the gun inappropriately somehow. My current roommate(one of my sisters) is also uncomfortable with guns, so that somewhat affects my decision too.

That said, I'm in agreement with a lot of what you said, and I've been moving more to the side of maybe I should. As for where I am, I'm in Decatur, fairly close to ATL, and quite a few of my friends do have guns so I do have people I can talk to about practice.
