It is my headcanon that all dwarves grow beards, but for cultural reasons dwarf women shave.

I think the Pratchett way where all dwarfs are bearded is cute, combined with the tradition-breaking female clothes but they still keep the beard and battle axe. I'm pretty sure Terry uses this as a nod to trans.
