Not yet. I think the burst is coming. There are plenty of signs and Ive read more than one economist, including the head of the Bank of Canada, worrying about the effects on the economy when it does: "The Bank of Canada's October 2025 Monetary Policy Report noted that a sharp correction in AI stock valuations could undermine consumer confidence in both the US and Canada, potentially leading to a widespread economic downturn."

I think the sh*tstorm is just around the corner. And those who have been crowing about their massive gains in the market are either going to wisely sell now, or get a huge beating when the rollercoaster starts to slide down.

Just because a school is independent doesnt mean its inaccessible to those with low income. Our school had a scholarship program, it had tuition assistance and we had a few very generous donors who would also cover tuition for those who were less fortunate. We also had more a few students whose tuition was paid by grandparents or other relatives. If there's a will there's a way and not surprisingly, parents will give up almost anything to make sure their kids have the best education they can get. Personally we were not wealthy but we gave up moving up to a more suitable house so our kids could attend. There were 5 of us living upstairs in a 900 sq ft house and we rented out the basement to add to our income. It can be done.

That's not how teachers think. They are dedicated first and foremost to the kids, not the parents, not the government, not the union. They won't do things that hurt their students and no grading would definitely hurt, especially for those hoping to get into university.

Well it IS direct democracy in action. IF they can collect signatures equal to 60% of the votes in the last election and IF they can get more than 50% of votes for a new candidate in another election, the people will have spoken.

Personally I think its a lot of sabre rattling but the unions, and it'll fizzle out in a few weeks, but we'll see.

Got that right. The head of our local college was making $400,000 a year before he retired. This is a small town college not a university, and that kind of income is ridiculously high for a college president in a town of 60,000. Thats double what our premier makes.

On the other hand, I did a little digging and compared to other English speaking nation universities, Canada is actually bottom of the list for paying our university presidents: https://higheredstrategy.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Figure-6.png

So true. Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are billionaires because they've learned to manipulate our entire society into hating each other. They will have some 'splainin to do sooner or later.

Just my observation but it seems your beef with the UCP is personal, not so much political ideology. Theyve done something to affect your life on a personal level? You dont have to answer, just making an observation.
