The Palestinian ambassador to Canada says she feels Ottawa is on the brink of officially recognizing statehood for her people, as she also takes note of tougher language from Canada on Israel’s actions in Gaza.

« It's part of a trend known as "fake-fluencing." That's when companies create fake personas with AI in order to make it look like a real person is endorsing a product or service. The company in this case is Nexa, an AI firm that develops software that other companies can use to recruit new hires. Some of the videos feature Nexa logos in the scene. The company's founder and CEO Divy Nayyar calls that a "subconscious placement" of advertising. »

RCMP: Ideologically motivated violent extremism: four individuals charged

One of the accused allegedly created and administered an Instagram account with the aim of recruiting new members to the anti-government militia.

Numerous firearms were seized by police officers during searches in January 2024.

Military-style training in which the accused took part.

NYT: Canadian Armed Group Charged in Plot to Seize Quebec Land

The men charged with terrorism offenses were identified as Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24, and Raphaël Lagacé, 25, both of Quebec City, and Simon Angers-Audet, 24, of Neuville, Quebec. Matthew Forbes, 33, of Pont-Rouge, Quebec, was charged with the explosives and weapons offenses.

Mr. Forbes and Mr. Chabot are corporals in the Canadian Armed Forces stationed at a large base northwest of Quebec City, the military said in a statement on Tuesday evening. The armed forces added that another of the accused men is a former member of the Canadian Forces while the fourth man was once a civilian instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Neither of those men were identified by name.

In the statement, the police said that the men facing the terrorism charges had been “planning to create anti-government militia.”

Basically all written in the title. Does anyone know if Canada is actually accepting us as refugees from the US yet, or no? Any information is appreciated, thank you!

It’s official: Premier Danielle Smith can now call herself Queen of Measles.

And not just in Alberta. Try North America.

That’s right. Alberta now leads the continent in a preventable childhood disease that leaves at least two of every 1,000 infections with severe intellectual disabilities, pneumonia or hearing loss. Or dead.

Stunningly, Alberta has already recorded nearly half a dozen cases of measles present at birth in the province.

And every measles infection leaves a child with a disabled immune system, stripped of memory about how to fight other routine infections. As a result, any unvaccinated child who battles measles will probably be sicklier, possibly for years afterwards. Brazilian researchers recently found a high correlation between having measles and later dying of another infectious disease.

Canada seems to be headed toward a two party system. I think it's extremely important that we as Canadians push for electoral reform as quickly as possible.

Six months.

That's all it took for the Trump regime to make the move from kidnapping people on the street, to threatening to strip political enemies of citizenship, to selling swag celebrating the construction of an American concentration camp.

Six months.

And Republicans say that merch promoting the newly built Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp is "going like hot cakes."

Some detractors have called the camp Alligator Auschwitz, but this may not be the most accurate comparison. Not yet anyway. Because the death camps didn’t just appear; it took years of increasing brutality and degradation before they got to Auschwitz.

It began at Dachau.

Canada has transferred US$1.7 billion to Ukraine from revenues generated by frozen Russian assets.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine had received about US$1.7 billion (CA$2.3 billion) from Canada under the ERA initiative. These funds come from the proceeds of Russian assets frozen in the West.

He noted that with this tranche, Ukraine has received approximately US$17.6 billion since the beginning of the year through the immobilisation of Russian assets.

...

At the end of June, the UK gave missiles to Ukraine paid for with £70m interest on Russian assets.

...

"We are grateful to Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney and everyone involved in this initiative. We insist on the full confiscation of the frozen Russian assets. They are needed to compensate the victims of aggression and to rebuild our state. This will also be an act of justice to prevent aggressive wars in the future," Shmyhal says.

I just found this when looking for Canadian alternatives. Anyone else hear about gander? I'm doing my best to support home grown and open alternatives but I have to choose what I am doing on the platform. It's unlikely that my older family will ever leave Facebook, but honestly, what do I miss by not being present there? Birthday posts on my wall and the latest vacation picture...
