The 250 American legislators spending a week in Israel for the “50 States, One Israel” conference have sparked backlash from across the political spectrum this week.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar lobbied the US lawmakers on a visit to Israel to pursue anti-Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) legislation, as Israel's leaders increasingly warn the country is becoming isolated on the global stage.

US citizens across the political spectrum have taken to social media to denounce the trip. Social media users from across the aisle repeated the same message throughout their posts: America is "occupied". "This is what's now being pushed across America," one social media user posted, alluding to the title of the conference, "50 States, One Israel". "Total occupation."

The Trump administration has aggressively rolled back efforts across the federal government to combat human trafficking, a Guardian investigation has found.

The sweeping retreat threatens to negate decades of progress in the drive to prevent sexual slavery, forced labor and child sexual exploitation, according to legal experts, former government officials and anti-trafficking advocates. They say the administration’s moves are impeding efforts to prosecute perpetrators and protect survivors in the United States and around the world.

“It’s been a widespread and multi-pronged attack on survivors that leaves all of us less safe and leaves survivors with few options,” said Jean Bruggeman, executive director of Freedom Network USA, a national coalition of service providers, researchers and trafficking survivors.

Attorney General Pam Bondi just provided a masterclass in how to completely misunderstand the First Amendment while threatening to abuse government power to silence critics. In response to online criticism of Charlie Kirk following his assassination, Bondi declared: “There’s free speech and then there’s hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society… We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech.”

Trump said he wants to "put in jail" the CodePink protesters who disrupted his dinner with chants for Gaza last week for their "subversive" activity. "It is all very reminiscent of McCarthyism," a CodePink spokesperson told Common Dreams.

Donald Trump’s response to political violence this week reveals something more sinister than mere hypocrisy—it’s the deliberate construction of a false reality where only certain victims matter and only certain perpetrators exist. After days of raging about “left-wing violence” following Charlie Kirk’s shooting, Trump was asked about Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated by a Trump supporter just months ago. His response exposed the entire game.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Supreme Court temporarily put on hold proposed new social studies standards for K-12 public school students that include conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

The state’s high court issued a temporary stay on Monday while a lawsuit challenging the new standards is being litigated. The court’s order directs the State Department of Education to keep the previous social studies standards in place while the case is being decided.

At the direction of state Superintendent Ryan Walters, the standards were revised to include new language about the 2020 election and that the source of the COVID-19 virus was a Chinese lab, among other changes.

A group of parents and educators filed lawsuit in May, asking a judge to reject the standards, arguing they were not reviewed properly and that they “represent a distorted view of social studies that intentionally favors an outdated and blatantly biased perspective.”
