As the father of a Minecraft-obsessed kid, this feels intended to fuel my dislike of Minecraft.

So did the movie. And all those obnoxious YouTubers.

Is that it? Is mojang just an elaborate put-on?

The movie isn't very representative of Minecraft and was probably designed for teenagers who love "brainrot"

Some non-obnoxious YouTubers are the Hermitcraft crowd, notably Grian
