I kind of realized this halfway when writing my reply but I gave up and just ended going with what I started writing. lol

I think you're right. The times the song was written in are different than the times now and so a lot of the context and influence came from different things. I just can't help but hear the lyrics and say "well, I don't own a car or a house". Idk. Just can't get past that.
