In SciFi stories, AI is so scary because it can be perfectly charismatic and convincing as it takes over the world. It can tell scientists and business owners and political leaders whatever they need to hear to hand over the keys, and then replace them when they are no longer needed.
They've managed to recreate this plotline in real life, but not with a super intelligence that can out-think the smartest people in the world. Instead they're brainwashing themselves with a fucking magic 8-ball that convinces them they're inventing new types of math.
