Every gun you see is always loaded.
This is clearly a lie, but is a useful lie that if you live by will make yourself as well as others safer around guns.
Better way to word it is: "Treat every gun as if it is loaded"
Followed with:
Never aim your weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy.
Keep your trigger finger straight and along the receiver until you intend to fire your weapon.
Keep your weapon on safe until ready to fire.
Be aware of your target, your surroundings, and what lies beyond your target.
