The Chinese people. Non-anecdotal evidence, from an anglo source:

- The real wage (IE the wage adjusted for the prices you pay) has gone up 4x in the past 25 years, more than any other country. This is staggering considering it's the most populous country on the planet. The US real wage by comparison is lower in 2019 than it was in 1973.

These all sound good for the Chinese as a people, my question was about the government being trustworthy in what it tells people.
1st and 3rd links seem potentially good, the wage increase...you must know that's a terrible comparison.

It would only be circular if their agreement on China was the sole indication of their subservience to US interests, that is not the case

I mean, all government sponsored sources are going to be biased. No media should be trusted wholesale
Soviet Union was making news about extermination camps during WW2 and Westerner media blocked those news because of COMMIE propaganda. US lifted the block only when they reached the German mainland. SU was reporting from Poland at that time.
So, your argument is invalidated. We need to look for governments who people put theirs trust on.

My inherent distrust of authorities?
Do you also distrust climate scientists? Doctors? I think you should hold healthy skepticism for claims, but to outright distrust anything China says just because they have a state is overkill.
