Linux is too complicated, breaks all the time, and you need to be a nerdy computer wizard to be able to use it.

I have very niche needs like reading emails, writing emails, and looking at memes, and for my use case Linux is really not there yet.

Holy shit this comment came out swinging... A+ job.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

That'll do it.

[–] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 26 points 4 days ago (3 children)

They complain about it all the time, but gamers deserve the microtransaction and slop hell the AAA industry has created, as those same gamers pump billions into these soulless corporate behemoths and keep the system rolling.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's hard to generalize, but often it's really just a few whales propping the whole thing up.

While they may make up 2% of the users, they can account for 50% to an astounding 70% of game developers’ profits

The linked article is referencing Candy Crush, not AAA games, but it's hard to find published data on the matter. Different games and communities will be different, but I would hesitate to broadly blame consumers for this.

[–] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I am unfortunately aware about how predatory microtransactions are - This is a ragebait thread so the broad (and mostly incorrect) blaming was the intent.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

where's the lie?

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works -1 points 4 days ago

Much the same way as women's clothing not having pockets.

If you made men's clothing with no pockets, you'd have a bunch of unsold men's clothing with no pockets.

Lemmy sucks at baiting 😭

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

Go away! I'm baitin'

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

no it doesn't??

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Cant even call this ragebait after reading this thread lol, its just a sea of half assed complaints that no one cares about.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

That's only because poor people, especially those of lesser races are so easily manipulated.

/s or maybe /r?

[–] Pika@rekabu.ru 2 points 4 days ago

Does it, though?

Let me start this off:

Windows 11 is sexy as fuck.

[–] merci3@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think it looks prettier than Windows 10 but not close to Windows 7

[–] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

Aero my beloved

  1. Why do you care about your data being stolen? It is just data, do you have something to hide?
  2. Charlie Kirk was a normal right-winger. He had a family. He only stood for peaceful values, and never anything that could be considered harmful.
  3. I think the EU should stop regulating US companies.
  4. Zelensky is standing in between Ukraine and its peace. Without him there would have been peace long ago.
[–] UltraBlack@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Did you vote for trump too?

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[–] Schmoo@slrpnk.net 9 points 4 days ago

The ~~placebo~~ rage bait effect works even on those who are aware that it's ~~placebo~~ rage bait.

[–] UltraBlack@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I guess I'm going to go and find my final resting place now.

The internet has become a difficult place. Having look out for Propaganda, AI slop, ragebait and more...

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Jurassic Park is a 2/5 movie at best.

OH NO DINOSAURS!!! LOOK OUT!

Whew, we're safe.

OH NO MORE DINOSAURS AAAAAH

That's the movie.

[–] TriangleSpecialist@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I unironically think this.

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I do too, this was my opportunity to say my opinion and not get yelled at lol

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago

I'd give it a 0.5/10 at best.

[–] L0rdMathias@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Not so much as ragebait but unpopular opinion. I think most Lemmy users are highly paid middle class, tech workers who are out of touch with the genuine grievances and feelings of the working class, whose previous manufacturing jobs were outsourced and left with no alternative. They are then left to compete with just as poor immigrants for artificially-induced resource scarcity. And then Lemmings call them ignorant redneck hillbillies without listening to their lived experience. Sure, many former manufacturing blue collar workers could re-skill, but it is easier said than done, since most people find it hard to re-adjust and prefer to stick with their trade.

Now that there is huge lay off of tech workers the past year in preference to cheap immigrant labour, and cost-free AI, many Lemmy users are starting to realise and feel the experience of working class who had been left by globalisation.

I am increasingly becoming socialist. At some point we will all need UBI.

Star Trek is just shitty Star Wars with no light sabers.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

An LLM generated this post and will farm all responses to refine its ragebait. Lemmy users are contributing to their own deliquency.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

The whole "women's clothing has no pockets" situation happened because women buy clothing with no pockets, then complain about the lack of pockets.

If you made men's clothing with no pockets, you'd have a bunch of clothes nobody wants.

[–] Pika@rekabu.ru 5 points 4 days ago

Migrants brought us gays that destroy our country

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago

Seriously? No one did these ones? OK, here we go: (pukes in his mouth)

  • Trump does nothing wrong.

Still holding it together? OK, let's turn it up a notch:

  • women who dress sexy are asking for it

If this doesn't rage you, then wtf are you doing on Lemmy.

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

People like to rag on AI here because it grants them coolness points and because they're threatened that it will literally do a better job, faster and cheaper than they can. If the so called "tech gurus" around here would think more about the greater good (as in helping to train AI instead of always criticizing it) we'd have a much better society.

FACT: the best Christmas song ever is "All I Want For Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

[–] prime_number_314159@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You're really going to put that up against "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Mariah Carey?

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Obviously anything by Mariah Carey would be a contender but I stand by my assertion

[–] lostme@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

if Mozart was deaf how did he see his piano

Needs text alternative.Images of text break much that text alternatives do not. Losses due to image of text lacking alternative:

  • usability
    • we can't quote the text without pointless bullshit like retyping it or OCR
    • text search is unavailable
    • the system can't
      • reflow text to varied screen sizes
      • vary presentation (size, contrast)
      • vary modality (audio, braille)
  • accessibility
    • lacks semantic structure (tags for titles, heading levels, sections, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, code, links, accessibility features, etc)
    • some users can't read this due to lack of alt text
    • users can't adapt the text for dyslexia or vision impairments
    • systems can't read the text to them or send it to braille devices
  • searchability: the "text" isn't indexable by search engine in a meaningful way
  • fault tolerance: no text fallback if
    • image breaks
    • image host is geoblocked due to insane regulations.

Contrary to age & humble appearance, text is an advanced technology that provides all these capabilities absent from images.

  1. Not everything is going to evolve into crabs.

  2. I've read a wikipedia page about the Dunning Kruger effect, so I understand it as well as an expert.

  3. Name brand Band-aid self adhesive sterile bandages really are that much better. If you grew up using anything else, your parents didn't love you, or you were extremely poor (or both).

  4. Tryptophan is not the thing that makes you tired after overeating on Thanksgiving. It's mostly carbs, and the fact that so many people uncritically repeat this easily disproven lie is a sign of how little concern for the truth almost everyone has, almost all the time.

Fantascist: a person who veers, knowingly or unknowingly, into fascistic tendencies and beliefs due to their unshakeable faith in whatever shite Trump is currently spewing in one of his streams of consciousness.
