I mean, what do you expect from a culture that invented hell (Hel)? The Franks liked it so much they adopted it into the Christian Canon, so that there was an "or else."

They’re often Grimm.
Not this time, though.
Picture is out of the "Struwelpeter", which is not part of Grimm's collections.
Busch?
No, Heinrich Hoffmann, a German psychiatrist in the mid 19th century.
Loved the Struwelpeter as a child btw. :-)
It's actually 2 specific Germans
The 2 flabbergasted cats are killing me
right?!
my cats wouldn't give a damn. lol

If German fairy tales were modern films they'd all be made by like a24 or lionsgate.
German fairy tales were often about morality and what happens if you don't behave properly. The Suppenkasper has starved to death, Hans Guck in die Luft has drowned, the fingers of the Struppelpeter have been cut off, etc. I recommend the Wilhelm Busch house book.
Hans guck in die Luft was saved before drowning.
Should fairy tales be any different?
Hans guck in die Luft was saved by dockworkers, and it was the Daumenlutscher with the cut off fingers.
Grimm Brothers were also German and the collected the most famous stories (Snowwhite, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, ...). In the original they were way more brutal too.
I'd change the meme to "... but written by Europeans."
I once saw this image/story being narrated by an over the top German guy, in some Facebook or tik tok or insta video, and found it hilarious, then I tried to find the damn video again for hours with no success, so now it just makes me sad. NoOOo Paunlinchen!
