I went to my local restaurant a few weeks ago and discovered they make "Pizza Soup"

I laughed at the waitress at first and then asked for an order thinking it was going to be terrible.

I couldn't believe it .... it was soup that tasted like pizza. It was amazing.

What was the pizza soup like?

I bet finishing it with cheese and bread like a French onion would be amazing.

It looked like a tomato noodle soup ... but a soon as I tasted it, the seasoning they used was a perfect combination to make it taste exactly like pizza.

I didn't get any bread with it but now you gave me an idea to try it next time.

If it's pizza, it has to go with garlic bread.

Could we serve it inside the garlic bread?

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

What's wrong with you? .... This is torturous ... Now I have to wait until I go back to the restaurant and hope that they are serving this soup again to even think about trying it with garlic bread. I'll be thinking about this for days, weeks even.

I'm also really excited, and very curious at the thought of pizza soup inside a garlic bread bowl. You've cursed me with these visions ... thanks.

So, it was watered down pizza sauce.

I mean, you can literally just chuck pizza into water and boil it until it breaks up and forms a broth. You might have to add a bit more seasoning afterwards to make up for the higher water content, but it should taste the same.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Probably easier to chuck a pizza in a blender and make creamy soup.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Don't forget to add ranch

[–] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'd probably use an immersion blender anyway, but it's not required.

Italians have something similar, called pappa al pomodoro, which is crusty bread boiled in tomato paste with veggie stock to fill it up. If you used that with pizza instead of crusty bread, it would probably be even better than just chucking the pizza into water.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Would it really taste the same?

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've actually done this and it was genuinely good- tasted like pizza

My favorite soup.

But, I like the pepperoni super crispy.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Average grocery store pizza with the peperoni falling off on to the plastic wrapper and you have to pick them up and put it back on the pizza, and also cheese melts unevenly, or you heat it longer and it gets burnt (especially the peperoni.

Also, those frozen pizzas has a weird smell and taste to it. Like it taste like chemicals lol, like its was made in a lab or something, taste horrible the more you try. (Basically like every frozen food is horrible and filled with chemicals)

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's called freeze burn. Ideally you'd seal the food before freezing, but freezing itself still alters the food molecules. It's not chemicals, it's science.
