Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

No, she's called Ponytail! Megan has a bob cut and is obviously far less attractive. Uh... to that guy, I mean. Obviously...

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 18 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

Well maybe she needs a little badge that says "Fucking Morgan" so we would know.

[–] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

no I think King Arthur needs a little badge that says "Fucking Morgan"

[–] Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You mean getting tag-teamed by Morgan and Mordred?

[–] tgirlschierke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Mordred is his son, but he's also (in most versions of the myth) his nephew, so not that out of character.

[–] Siethron@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Isn't Mordred Lancelot's son?

[–] Honytawk@feddit.nl 2 points 6 days ago

Why should we know who she is fucking?

That is private information.

[–] thatsTheCatch@lemmy.nz 20 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Is it because the XKCD women (and the men) are possibly naked at all times? It's not obvious whether they're wearing clothes all the time or not...

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 21 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I prefer to think that Black Hat Guy is naked except for the hat

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 6 days ago

He would be, wouldn't he

Just like everyone on Lemmy... I know about you sick twisted sickos. AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW... you're not alone.

[–] Honytawk@feddit.nl 2 points 6 days ago

It is quite obvious they are naked.

They have censor bars all over their bodies.

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 6 days ago

I think there are a few comics that imply they have that distinction?

so is this proof that men will get horny over anything, or that men can get horny for more than a woman's body? 🤔

they had threads on /d/ about sign people, calling them pictograms

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 73 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Are they attracted to the image, or the idea of an intelligent woman?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago

Behold a sapiosexual

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hornet is certainly intelligent, but I think her defining characteristic is more "A woman who takes no shit."

[–] Mozingo@lemmy.world 32 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He's talking about the xkcd woman lmao not Hornet.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 71 points 1 week ago

Intelligent women are pretty hot… hmmm

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 1 week ago

The image.

If they were attracted to intelligent women they would be wearing a chequered hat and smoking a pipe.

[–] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 30 points 1 week ago (4 children)

People are getting horny over Hornet??

[–] kartoffelsaft@programming.dev 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't play hollow knight, but a friend who does told me there's a line in the game that strongly implies she's a lesbian. Methinks that implanted horny bug smut into many a gamer.

[–] parlaptie@feddit.org 9 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I must have missed that line because Hornet never struck me as someone with much sexual interest.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 12 points 6 days ago

She has multiple journal entries about how she's had mates in the past but since she's a demi goddess thus being immortal less something kills her. She's literally outlived all her mates.

It fills in a lot of background why hornet is closed off to the world and overly pragmatic in speech while her actions are that of someone who clearly cares far far too much about those around her for the words she speaks to hold any weight.

She's a lonely person doomed to watch all those she loves and care for die over and over for eternity. While she does her best to close herself off to keep everyone at arms length and her interactions purely transactional.

Yet she fails over and over. Becoming attached and making friends. Going above and beyond to risk life and claw to save those she tells to not risk themselves for she selfishly claims she simply wishes to see no more death. But in reality she just can't handle the heart ache of watching people die so she helps those who risk themselves in their pursuit.

Hornet is a sad somber character. A great look into the curse of immortality and the weight of responsibly that comes with it.

Bugs have pheromones so I guess it's just a matter of the right scent

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

its the internet people get horny over literally anything

[–] Honytawk@feddit.nl 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm sexually aroused by your lack of capitalization and punctuation.

[–] Siethron@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

I cAn, FiX! ThAT?

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

People generally get horny over knights in shining armor and princesses.

Hornet is literally a princess knight. Hell she even has a white steed.

She's a bit of a tsundere on top of it.

Hollow Knight is a very very cliche story of knights and kingdoms both the first and silksong. These sorts of stories are basically the foundation for a lot of peoples childhood fantasy stories.

So you have a very well made classical knights and kingdoms fantasy story with well done classic renditions of the standard character tropes.

Combine these two facts and you have a breeding group for people to become overly attached.

There's a good damn reason these settings and character tropes are classics!

Yes. Do a quick sweep over DeviantArt, Rule34, and Archive of Our Own for Hornet if you dare.
