I've never heard Mac and cheese referred to as 'mac'

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 6 points 11 hours ago

think of all the hours that have been wasted in your life waiting for people to finish saying macaroni and cheese or saying the full thing yourself

Trying to remember my PIN number at the ATM machine so I can buy some SCUBA apparatus.

Have some chai tea while thinking it over.

Macaroni and cheese and cheese and cheese

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 2 points 21 hours ago

I bet that's also a correct order, they just double the cheese.

It's Mac and cheese, but through sheer awesome coincidence it's also the correct acronym.

[–] ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It's yara (yet another recursive acronym), not to be confused with the malware testing suit/programming language YARA (which stands for Yet Another Recursive Acronym)

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I feel a little disappointed that yara is not a yara.

[–] ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

That's yinara - yara is not a recursive acronym

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The Mac in macaroni and cheese stands for macaroni and cheese

[–] neatchee@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Don't even get me started on Dilbert's "The TTP Project"

Or what happens when you Google "recursion"

[–] vk6flab@lemmy.radio 6 points 18 hours ago
[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 59 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mac is not an acronym.

It is only an abbreviation of macaroni.

Mac and Cheese would be redundant if it were an acronym.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah, nobody would say the words of an acronym, like PIN number or ATM machine!

(you are correct)

[–] stankbucket@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

PIN is an acronym. ATM is an initialism. Please pedant properly.

[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 4 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Same feeling with "VIN Number" ._.

Thank you for acknowledging my (fairly manageable) pain

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There’s ATMs and there are ATM machines and you don’t want to get the two mixed up

[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 4 points 22 hours ago

Oh yeah the Access To Money machines that you see at sketchy convenience stores and whatnot usually have bizarrely high fees

Whereas Automated Teller Machines operated by established financial institutions are a little more trustworthy and reasonable

(I'm only a little bit joking)

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 8 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

Also, keep in mind that the plural is macaronis and cheese

[–] Threeme2189@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

No no, you've got it all backwards! The singular is macaron or macaronus. The plural is macaroni, like viri.

Next time you order Mac and cheese, say it right 😉

[–] jpeps@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

What about multiple servings of macaroni and cheese??

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Yes please.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 5 points 20 hours ago

Nope, it's like fish.

macking cheese from the michael wave

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 1 points 18 hours ago
[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Common mistake. That stands for "mac and cheese and cheese" which is just mac with extra cheese.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My 6 year old calls it "Mac'n" he drops the cheese

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

My 6 year old just drops the whole bowl.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yay, recursive acronym!

Like GNU’s Not Unix!

[–] UltraBlack@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)
[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

it's actually "Wine Is Not an Emulator"

[–] UltraBlack@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I know, but the "an" makes it a bit harder to see the recursive nature.

I simplified it for improved clarity

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Time to start a social media controversy where we argue about whether it's mac. or m.a.c.. It'll be lemmy's written version of the gif controversy. ~~I'll make a masto poll when I get home.~~ done.
