Somewhat on the same topic, can someone explain how "asf" came about (meaning "as fuck")? I mean I get it, some lazy bums can't be bothered to type "AF" (with the capital letters), but why add an extra letter out of nowhere?

[–] prime_number_314159@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

I suspect it started with self censorship ("as f") rather than abbreviation.

I've never heard Mac and cheese referred to as 'mac'

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Only by PC users?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 hours ago

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

think of all the hours that have been wasted in your life waiting for people to finish saying macaroni and cheese or saying the full thing yourself

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 4 hours ago

If I'd known, it would have made all the difference...

Mac is not an acronym.

It is only an abbreviation of macaroni.

Mac and Cheese would be redundant if it were an acronym.

GNU is Not Unix

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah, nobody would say the words of an acronym, like PIN number or ATM machine!

(you are correct)

[–] stankbucket@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

PIN is an acronym. ATM is an initialism. Please pedant properly.

[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Same feeling with "VIN Number" ._.

Thank you for acknowledging my (fairly manageable) pain

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There’s ATMs and there are ATM machines and you don’t want to get the two mixed up

It's Mac and cheese, but through sheer awesome coincidence it's also the correct acronym.

[–] ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's yara (yet another recursive acronym), not to be confused with the malware testing suit/programming language YARA (which stands for Yet Another Recursive Acronym)

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel a little disappointed that yara is not a yara.

Also, keep in mind that the plural is macaronis and cheese

[–] Threeme2189@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No no, you've got it all backwards! The singular is macaron or macaronus. The plural is macaroni, like viri.

Next time you order Mac and cheese, say it right 😉

[–] jpeps@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about multiple servings of macaroni and cheese??

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yes please.

[–] racketlauncher831@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

So which one of them tastes like fish, macaroni or cheese?

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

Taste? I'm talking about behaviour
