"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

A short article but I found it absurd that AI, something that can struggle with basic tasks on one side can have nuclear equivalence the other.

Either case, a short article from Wired (I dunno if this was paywalled or not, since half of Wired's stuff is not free, so instead of sharing the original URL, shared the archive.org link)

Antrophic once again tries to wrangle free marketing out of spouting bullshit.

Every time I read/hear these pieces about "the looming threat of AI" and it isn't "social collapse because LLMs are fucking stupid but very convincing" I hear the marketing department hard at work.

Could you imagine an AI-built nuclear weapon? That shit would make Temu purchases look like they came from Louis Vuitton. Thing would spontaneously combust, with the ultimate payload power that wouldn't destroy a six year olds lemonade stand. Total cost of development? 1.1 trillion dollars, mostly because it made AI powered materials purchases from those fraudulent eBay accounts that sell everyday items at wild mark ups. Instead of uranium, the AI received a picture of Doc from Back to the Future holding the flux capacitor, which it then wrapped in a supposed berrylium core, that was actually just a bunch of rubber bands coated in Froot Loops

Meanwhile Executive Sam just purchased another vacation home with the 5 million dollar bonus they got for saving so much money on labor, and everyone from this company is raving about the synergies this AI is discovering, on their LinkedIn profiles.
