This is how some invasive species got their starts.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 20 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

We should introduce their natural predator just to be safe

“I’m sick and tired of these fly fighting frogs on this Monday to Friday airplane.” - Samuel L. Jackson

I'd watch Frogs on a Plane.

CANE TOADS ON A PLANE

My car was made in Germany in 2010 and there is a perfectly preserved Munich fly in the taillight which is kind of cool

Why would the first owner not complain that a sticker price 70k car somehow passed quality inspection with this though

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 21 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

German car

tail light

$70k price tag

BMW drivers don't realize blinkers exist, so they wouldn't even know how to form a complaint.

He buzzin innit?

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 56 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I think about this whenever I pick up a spider or similar on my car. I’m transporting them the equivalent of entire planets beyond their perspective. What new world will I bring them to?

[–] oneser@lemmy.zip 29 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

I was hiking recently and saw a massive caterpillar. I took a photo and asked our national biological office if they could ID it cos AI was doing a shit job (as usual).

They identified it and said that it almost definitely arrived as a seed or smaller caterpillar attached to a car and managed to find its way into the forest. They mentioned that they normally return with holidayers in the summer and don't make it through the cold winter's, but this may shift due to climate change. This thing was about 18 cm (7 American toes) long.

Crazy to see how much shit these critters can handle and still survive (for now...).

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

uh, american toes are a lot more variable than that

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Is that 7 toes lengthwise or side-by-side? And which American toes? Lady liberty, or a normal human adult, or a child? Perhaps a newborn?

Man I hate our measuring system, it’s so complicated.

[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Are you a transplant here or something? Those answers are all clearly side-by-side Liberty toes. Real Americans are born with that knowledge.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 18 hours ago

See I mean that’s what I assume, too, but whomever starts their post with metric is clearly not used to the conversions into freedom units and so one must verify they did they math correctly. In case they are egregiously off the mark.

[–] oneser@lemmy.zip 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The small part of the feet also used to measure things. You standardised those, right?

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Nope, nothing standard about toes, lots of genetic variation! ;)

Imagine being a fish who gets caught by a human, and gets yanked out of his dimension and into an entirely different dimension, almost an opposite world.

Then the alien yanks the hook out of his lip, and throws him into the air...and he lands back in his own dimension, gasping for air.

Or, perhaps the alien takes him away...

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Did you know fish can see through glass the same way we can see in? As long as it’s not curved glass they can see pretty clearly.

[–] Tina@lemmy.world 12 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Nah, what you don’t know is that fly committed some fly crime and saw an opportunity to get tf outta there as fast as possible. London, here I come! Nobody will find me there MWAHAHA

[–] Adulated_Aspersion@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

Some fly is going to land on your screen and say,

"CARL?!?"

[–] bless@lemmy.ml 6 points 19 hours ago

I hope he paid the visa

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago

Lucky fly. It's still so hot in Houston.

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

He will encounter British Flyes! He will have to learn how to buzz around CRISPS and SCONES now.

[–] Pulptastic@midwest.social 7 points 18 hours ago

[–] EvilEdgelord@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Everyday I scroll through Lemmy, this flies life is about to change again 🙄

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I've been a Lemmy admin for over 2 years and browse daily. I usually sort by top -> 6 hours but I've never seen this

[–] EvilEdgelord@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago

Crazy you missed it being one of the top posts and a few different communities the last few days.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 26 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Oh shit, we've added another Reddit feature, of people complaining about seeing the same post 100x despite it being upvoted by people who obviously never have! The "everything must only be posted ONCE!!1!!" feature, one of my favorites

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

wah i have seen this comment before also my nappy is full SOMEONE CHANGE THE INTERNET ALSO ME

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

I’m chronically online most days and I haven’t seen this on Lemmy yet, nor at all for that matter.

I hate when people whine about seeing stuff multiple times; at least this isn’t a depressing news article being shared in 63 different communities so you have to see the same thing dozens and dozens of times and be reminded how shit everything is..

It’s just a fun little picture with no bad vibes at all. I’m ok with seeing that sort of thing repeatedly.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 hours ago

no bad vibes, eh? This fly JUST WENT AROUND THE WORLD! /jk

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

Haha didn't even think of that. Yeah, you go to /all and it's literally page after page of the same 7 news articles being auto-postec across 32 communities with the same name on different instances. On a platform where this is problem inherently exists, how does one complain about reposts?

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Maybe spend less time on Lemmy and go out to see the world for yourself instead of being envious of this fly living its best life.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Hey, not all of us can afford to see the world.

I'm so poor, I can't even pay attention (fucking ADHD).

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The world’s outside mate. You just use your legs and explore.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

that's not the world outside my window, that's statesia. it doesn't count.

[–] shadowedcross@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Bruh, how much do you scroll through Lemmy? Because I scroll enough to only see posts from days ago, but I've literally never seen this before.

[–] EvilEdgelord@sh.itjust.works 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Like a few times a day I'm at work and there's a big gap in customers. Also, I only have a girlfriend, a mom and like two friends, so no real social life going at my age, just playing and watching stuff, y'know?

I'm old, bro 😭
