Probably just upset at the inaccuracy of saying half mast and not half staff. It's only half mast if it's on a ship.

It's amazing to me how many people are missing that I'm not being serious. Just light heartedly pointing out the error.

Nope. Half-mast or half-staff would both be correct.

The US flag code makes that specification.

The same one that disallows thin blue line flags? And flags with AI buff trump printed on them? And the president humping a flagpole during a press conference? If they don’t care about it why should you?

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yep, those are all examples of breaking the flag code.

why should you?

I hold myself to a higher standard than those brain dead people. I'm not perfect, but when something is this easy to follow, why wouldn't I?

The English language does not. This comic wasn't produced by the US flag code.

It's being spoken by an everyday person. That is a term that everyday people use. It makes no sense to take issue with it.

It makes no sense to correct someone when they're wrong?

If you wish to correct an entire culture against using a common idiom, enjoy your uphill battle. Everybody says half-mast.

It's ok to just let some things go.

Or, I could just keep doing what I do and light heartedly point it out. What's weird is everyone else seems to be taking this much more serious than I do.

I know you’ve been raised to blindly respect nationalism and that it’s really hard to break out of a mindset you’ve been steeped in, but please be aware that you are wielding a tool of the fascists right now and I don’t think that’s really what you want to be doing.
