Spot-on! The only socialism acceptable to the standard western viewpoint is a vow of poverty and self-sacrifice.

Some claim China failed, and specifically say it's because the Cultural Revolution was good, but ultimately lost out. Support for non-western, existing socialism is a bit of a litmus test for socialists.
