Ah you're right. These people are TOTALLY judging him by his faith, and not by the color of his skin!
I know you meant that sarcastically, but isn't that exactly what's happening here?
Because their religious bigotry stems from their racism. You don't see them talking shit about protestant or orthodox Christians despite them being at odds with Catholic Christianity, mostly because they perceive all Christians as white. Muslims aren't perceived as white so they get targeted.
They're only being Islamophobic to him because he's brown. They wouldn't act the same way to a white person who followed Islam
I mean, people who are being toxic against a religion are probably also racists, I imagine. I wouldn't put it past them, so to speak.
