Clarification guys and gals:

When the Vice president leaves office, they usually get protection for 6 months unlike the president that gets protection for life.

Biden granted Harris extended protection for whatever reason.

Trump cancelled Biden's order... resulting in Harris going back to standard 6 months of protection.

Trump is still an asshat for this and he has a history of cancelling protection for those he holds a grudge against.

Still a dick move.

Biden granted Harris extended protection for whatever reason.

The assassin who targeted Trump in Butler also had his sights on Biden and other prominent Democrats. It's not unreasonable to think that he might have had her best interests at heart considering the extremely tense political climate following those events and how she was elevated to center stage when he dropped out the race.

Perfect summation. Thank you.

Biden granted Harris extended protection for whatever reason.

Do you know how long the extension was for? For life also, or just a longer duration?

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I heard from credible source SleepyBear that it was extended by a extra year.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I also heard it here.

[–] SleepyBear@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I remember reading it was extended for an extra year, but dont entirely quote me on that.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

I'm not sure what the time frame was.... But whatever it was, 6 months or a year or more, it was not normal practice. Trump just likes to say fuck this Biden policy wherever.

I swear Biden could have issued an order saying puupies are cute and Trump would rescind it simply because it was Biden

It'd be bad enough if this was just the Toddler-in-chief being petty, but it's a sure bet that it's not - that he's very pointedly and deliberately telling his violent racist supporters to kill her.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 71 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

He's very pointedly telling the rest of the Democratic Party that he controls the police and the military.

And they're getting the message. I fully anticipate the next Congressional session will see conservative Dems falling over themselves to appease him.

Which makes gun controller's arguments against civilian militias (because states have the national guard) moot. If they answer to the state they're not really in a position to challenge it. People are gonna learn some hard truths about power whether they want to or not. Politicians are not going to stop this.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 10 points 1 day ago

Which they already are, so I guess they'll just do more of that.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago

An event that he can use to formally declare martial law and suspend elections.

Win/win for these ghouls.

The Untied States of America: a country where someone can violently attempt to overthrow the government and face zero consequences because he is running for president again

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hey, at least he's not a convicted rapist and unregistered child sex offender with ties to a convicted paedo, or a traitorous russian stooge ...oh, wait!!

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

I'm pretty sure he's committed about a hundred crimes he wasn't even convicted of, along with the 34 he was convicted of

Things that small-handed men do.

Has anyone noticed the framed photo in the background is of a guy gagging?

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I know doesn't matter but does Trump even have the authority to do this? I mean is it normally the president job to give out secret service protection?

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago

Trump is doing what he wants because he knows it'll take awhile for the courts to do anything.

Shoot first, ask questions later is the name of his game.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

It was due to expire in July anyway but Biden extended it by 1 year.

[–] TowardsTheFuture@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Right? Is this not something that is just guaranteed for the rest of the lives? People were talking about what happens if Trump was put in jail since he has secret service protection

Edit: okay apparently VP only gets like 6 months plus maybe extensions so this isn’t even a story really.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Bitchmade behavior.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He's starting to realize that he's going to need as much secret service for himself as he can get given that the number of people who can't stand him is constantly growing.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Is this abnormal?
