Oats. I eat oatmeal. Oat cereal. Oat milk. Oats in smoothies. I love oats.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 9 points 3 days ago

Oat-tay-toes

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I am also oatilicious. It's possible at more than one time in my life that I have been mostly made of oats.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Rice. Goes with everything, can be made stovetop in ~20 mins and is fairly cheap.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I got myself a cheap rice cooker and I’ve never looked back. I have never in my life appreciated a purchase as much.

Dal is delicious and nutritious. Endless curry variations and great with both jeera rice or naan.

Can’t go wrong with lentils.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I love that rice and lentils dish

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Corn is tempting and I really love oats, but gonna go with rice because I’m lazy and already have a rice farm.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Look at this guy with his own rice farm.

[–] SantasMagicalComfort@piefed.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids.

Do split peas count? Because I love making a home-made split-pea soup. I know it's technically a dried pea and not a grain...

It's way cheaper if you buy the whole ones and split them yourself.

What's the difference between a lentil and a chickpea?

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don’t know, what is the difference between a lentil and a chickpea?

^(this^ ^was^ ^the^ ^setup^ ^for^ ^a^ ^joke,^ ^right?)^

[–] bryndos@fedia.io 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes, and it's so awful that I'm going to let someone else do the punchline.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Its supposed to be a garbanzo bean.

And then the joke goes like this:

Tap for spoilerI've never paid $100 for some garbanzo on my face

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Close, but your punchline needs to incorporate the full setup:

"What's the difference between a chickpea and a garbanzo bean?"

"I'd never pay $100 to have a garbanzo bean on my face."

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ahh. I have been out sleezed

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

I got joke autism sorry

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Is soy a grain? Although for milk I go with Oat.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I think soy is a legume; typically not considered a grain; but OP included lentils which fall in the same category so I say go for it.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

Soy and lentils are beans, also called "pulse crops" because of some antiquated agricultural terminology. Pulses.org can tell you all about the magical world of pulses!

[–] fracture@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

(real question) is there a non-carb grain? is there a grain that's mostly protein? (a lot of keto stuff has pea protein...) (i'm almost certain there's no FAT based grain 😭)

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 6 points 3 days ago

No, but there are grains that have a lower glycemic index than others. Lentils are an example of one with 9g protein and 12g net carbs per 100g

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

If I had to pick one, I'd take rice. But I eat oats too.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Rye FTW.

Also, lentils are beans, not grain.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

Makes a great stout, ale, and whiskey!

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Lentils are legumes. Legumes and beans are pulses. Lentils are not beans.

[–] Svengarlic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago
[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

For anyone else interested, here’s a more complete list

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Rice. From white rice to black rice and everything in between it is a side, a pairing, an entree; rice is everything I need it to be.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Dessert too, and drink. Rice cream and horchata

I enthusiastically bought a load of quinoa to diversify my grain cabinet.. anyone got some good (veggie) recipes?

Rice. But oats and lentils are nice too.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Rice. Staple since I could eat solid food. Can’t live without it

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Probably anything but common wheat.

  1. Pure.

Edit: Only on lemmy shitpost would the idea of pure grain be worthy of a downvote.
