Wait. Were we somehow expecting more from a live-action MODOK?

[–] Gustephan@lemmy.world 45 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Kinda. The bald jd vance meme format should be having a field day with this image and my greatest regret right now is that I dont have the digital photo manipulation skills to make that a reality

”Bring VODOK a couch to fuck!" 🤣😂

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

it's actually hilarious how well jd Vance fits the role

I love everyone in all branches of this thread now.

IMO, the visual is perfect.

But the way they used the character is a complete disaster, and they made sure he would never be used well by killing him, and more permanently by turning him good.

Multiverse allows for different variants

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 50 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean, it’s fairly accurate to the comic:

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The way his face is wrinkled, which doesn't occur on real people, really makes him look more intimidating and less stupid. The hair helps too.

IMO they should've just done him fully in CGI

I pretty much only watch Marvel movies on planes, and this was the last one I think I ever willingly watched. It was terrible dogshit and I only finished it because I couldn't believe how bad it was.

Basically everything after they wrapped up Infinity War could be titled "The Afterthought: Cash Grab!"

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

That's when they stopped being Marvel movies and started being Disney movies.

[–] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 9 points 2 weeks ago

I thought this was from Sharkboy & Lavagirl lol

I thought this shit was hilarious.

But maybe if the best comedies of the last few years were not also super hero movies... Like, can we get some more straight up comedies like Grandma's Boy or Billy Madison? Dude, Where's My Car?? Something?!

[–] Zanathos@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

The new Naked Gun with Liam Neeson is pretty phenomenal.

A This is Spinal Tap sequel is scheduled to be released soon and a Spaceballs sequel is in the works. I'm hopeful they're funny.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I'm hopeful for Spaceballs. Brooks is still funny. This is the first I've heard of Spinal Tap getting a sequel tho. Rob Reiner hasn't lost his touch, has he? 🤔 If he is even involved?

I remember being in a theatre watching Silver Surfer with a friend who was an encyclopedic comic book nerd.

He said it will only get worse from here.

I believe this was shortly after he wrote and then sold a screenplay for I think it was Cloak and Dagger. The industry was in an all out war to buy up all the rights, which meant purely corporate controlled future for comic book movies as indie studios were going to get sued to oblivion for trying.

[–] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait, is your friend responsible for the Cloak and Dagger TV show? Or was this back when it was still planned as a movie? (I might be confusing it with Runaways. Not sure which one was once planned as a movie)

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This was a screenplay he sold to... I think Paramount in like 2006. He wrote barebone scripts so the studios could say they had the rights to something in the works. Paid off his college debt if I remember.

[–] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Damn. I for one enjoyed Cloak & Dagger, the TV show. Not sure how well known it is in general, but that and Runaways are some of my favourites from Marvel. I hope they are brought back, somehow. I mean, with the multiverse, they can technically consider and disconsider anything by claiming alternate universes.

Agents of Shield? Alternate universe. Not MCU.

Other spoodar-mens? They're here, from another universe! In the MCU, for real!!!

Inhumans? Another universe, not MCU either. But look, that one guy exists on this illuminati universe on Multiverse of Madness!!! (I wonder how many people recognised him. Not sure if inhumans was any popular or known)

The latest antman if I remember correctly. Terribly forgettable movie.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

hey it had that guy that played chidi in the good place. I remembered that at least.

[–] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 5 points 2 weeks ago

Quantumania

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

MRW I haven't been in a movie theatre since the 90s: :-|

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Ah, the brief period of people being able to enjoy unserious spectacles without some pretentious shmucks being all up in our shit smugly explaining to us how much we suck fo enjoying said spectacles. Now the smugness continues as normal. I hope you aren't loud enough for movie producing corporations to hear you, or we will enter another era of serious brown-gray shit where everyone is sad all the time. That will fucking kill me dead in this economy.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

I was very bored and wanted some easy brain-off entertainment, so I watched the latest Captain American movie.

I want those two hours of my life back.

[–] CaptainBlinky@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is this a meme I don't understand? Lemmy seems to be filled with them.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Apparently it has something to do with Marvel movies... so you aren't missing much.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 1 points 2 weeks ago

I have no idea but it looks ridiculous

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Comic book villain M.O.D.O.K.

"Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing"

[–] CaptainBlinky@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 2 weeks ago

Wow, that's actually pretty spot on then.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I peaced out when they started using the three funny bits for drama/horror trailers and when they started launching horror movies at Christmas. That was a long time before they ran out of ideas.

You wanna watch a movie? Cool, have fun.
