Ah, so we're in the completely break the government and seize control stage now! Fun!

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.world 29 points 5 days ago

Home slice, we've been in that stage since January.

Don't worry, Chuck Schumer will make a deal to prevent this while getting nothing in return.

To be fair, I've read that this was his fear with the last shutdown standoff. Now that they're basically destroying the federal government with/without a shutdown he seems more committed to not caving in.

Not sure if that's what we'll actually see, but seems a little more hopeful.

Americans continue down the path of getting a learning

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Yeah, definitely not a coincidence that top brass has all been rounded up just now.

Better to not have a functioning government than to have this government.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Bingo.

Better to entirely stop relying on the federal government and focus on state government.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago

100x this.

I want the answer to be mass organizing with a view towards a nationwide general strike to bring this regime to its knees. That's clearly not happening. Not when we need sustained pressure through protests to even get started on that. We've had almost a year now to prep, and the results are barely a start towards that.

So Plan B: soft secession. Blue states stop sending money to the federal government. Even promise to the citizens of those states that they don't owe federal income taxes, and prevent the IRS from enforcing anything. States will probably have to raise their own taxes to make up for certain things.

Then start building agreements between states for things like healthcare and transportation. If the Supreme Court says those agreements are unconstitutional, tell them to fuck off.

At this point I'm rooting for the collapse of the federal government. Every state has to fend for itself or make alliances with other states.

Blue states will be fine on their own, but would very likely form alliances, securing their welfare.

Red states will fail and die.

Sounds great to me.

As of right now blue states are in an abusive relationship with the federal government and red states and we'd be better off without them.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 4 points 4 days ago

Agreed. We need to have housing in blue states to accommodate the people who flee

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

You're ignoring the right's predilection for violence.

They will raid blue states, and kill people for food and supplies.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Buy your guns and ammo now folks

If the government shuts down there will be general strikes and the military will start shooting protesters.

Don't let it be a one sided battle.

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Also buy dry food, medical aid, basic medicines, solar chargers, and maybe communication devices.......if you can

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 7 points 5 days ago

Hegseth's military circle jerk will be in DC to pick up the slack.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Holy abusive relationships, Batman! Are they really getting set to hit us and say “look what you made me do”?
