Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Every single word that comes out of a military recruiter’s mouth is a flat-out lie. Including “service guarantees citizenship”.

The only good bug is a dead bug!

Would you like to know more?

They never once said service guarantees citizenship.

That's from Starship Troopers, a movie that I did not watch until after I was out of the military. It's one of my favorites.

Reminds me of pre-existing medical conditions back in the day where they would deny a woman cancer treatment because she forgot to tell them about a yeast infection they had a decade ago.

Remember all the manufactured panic about DEATH PANELS from the ACA? Turns out they were right about the death panels, just that the actual death panels are the insurance companies they forced us to keep in the equation.

The citizenry need our own death panels, like a 12 Luigi tribunal meting justice on behalf of the afflicted.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

For real, how dare a panel of experts decide whether you will get treatment or not.

Instead let's have a giant health insurance company's AI decide.

He became disabled while serving, the absolute disgust is never ending

Release the Trump/Epstein files

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The trump administration is never going to release anything harmful to the trump administration.

At this point, not releasing the files is the smoke screen for all the other shitty stuff they're doing.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, but bringing attention to it might help the midterms. Maybe? I hope

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If the “distractions”—ICE cruelty, killing medical research, ruining the education system and invading cities with goons—isn’t enough, the Epstein shit won’t be either.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

The cult is already inductranated.

[–] OboTheHobo@ttrpg.network 2 points 1 day ago

Not that I disagree with you, but I do honestly think this stuff is more important.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Fuck it, just throw Trump in prison at this point

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

A leaky prison at the bottom of the ocean.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Thank you for your service. Now get the fuck out! /s

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why the /s if it's pretty much true.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just so you know that those are not my feelings. Just an observation. But I take your point, for sure.

[–] themadcodger@kbin.earth 5 points 2 days ago

No, I think you should have done what you did. In this day and age, you can't really tell any more.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago

Given he's most likely Muslim, I wonder who he supported? Just kidding! We know they are all one issue voters and hate gay people more than being secure in their own homes!

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

if we can’t make it so paying taxes grants instant citizenship why the fuck can we not at least have it so military service does? oh right. where’s the profit in that.

[–] bassomitron@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago

Serving in the military does actually have an expedited path to naturalization. https://www.uscis.gov/military/naturalization-through-military-service

But, this fascist regime doesn't give a fuck about anything except hatred and cruelty.

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

There should be a time limit on this sort of thing. There's a time limit on bringing most criminal charges. There's even a time limit on property ownership disputes.
