I saw somewhere recently that the "plague of frogs" was likely someone found a single frog that was larger than normal and claimed that was the sign.

But over the centuries and through all the translations, it became an unbelievable amount of frogs everywhere.

I just picture one crazy guy with a pretty normal frog running around screaming "this is a sign!!!" And everyone ignoring him, then 2,000+ years later everybody just accepted it.

Kinda seems more likely there were just more frogs one year. That happens in nature from time to time.

yeah, honestly. plague of frogs, plague of locusts. sounds like they just had a particularly wet year that spring.

I don't know. The Egyptions must have been somewhat impressed to let millions of laborers wander off.

That would be a problem if there was any archaeological evidence of the ancient Jewish people being enslaved in Egypt, but there isn't.

So you're saying the Israelites were never in Egypt, or they were free to come and go as they please?

Religion makes people think and do stupid things

People do stupid things.

Religion just normalizes some of them.

I have to wonder about that part of that story. What kind of trouble are frogs supposed to pose? Are there poisonous frogs in the middle east, or do they damage crops in some way or something?

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Frogs burrow and eat a lot of stuff that benefits plants, like pollinators or other pest control critters.

They will leave your garden barren of life and full of holes and when they pass it will be a vacuum for nature to fill with pests and whatnot.

Add on that frogs are delicious for bigger things that are even scarier for humans, snakes and crocodiles and things.

Also a plague of frogs is probably eating another plague of bugs or something which is also damaging the crops.

Frogs are more of a “pestilence bringer” than a plague unto themselves.

They make a lot of noise and people can't sleep at night, leading to general societal collapse.

Am I correct in thinking that this whole anti-ice frog-thing is pure irony considering the MAGA Pepe frog thing from a decade (or more) ago?

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Frogs together strong ❤️🐸

[–] Netux@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

So I read that as the Bible says "fuck ICE", but you must pull out for the money shot.
