It really isn't, fascists love using "science" and "rationality" to "prove" their ideologies. You can argue that they're not doing real science, but their followers will believe it.

The cure to fascism is anarchism. That is the only effective way to prevent it.

"decline" ๐Ÿ™„

To be clear, this is just my opinion, and it's based on my experiences with psychiatrists as someone with pretty severe PTSD and other mental health issues.

Neither of those approaches tackles underlying emotional issues. They're popular because they give an easy-to-follow framework for "treating" very complex emotional issues. CBT is especially bad IMO, because it's more like teaching people how to mask and distract themselves from the effects of emotional issues rather than actually resolving them.

EMDR is like a "one neat trick" approach to tackling trauma, as if moving eyes around is some sort of magic spell to reverse trauma. In my experience, trauma is treated through reprocessing traumatic memories, and while EMDR does focus on reprocessing memories, it's a brute force approach, rather than a careful and measured approach, where emotional issues are slowly and steadily unpicked at a pace which is comfortable to the client.

Most psychiatrists are fucking quacks. I'm firmly of the opinion that the state should just allocate every man, woman and child $50 a month for person-centred therapy. Not trash like CBT or EMDR.

Or we could take a shortcut and just burn them down directly.

I genuinely can't tell whether this is satire or not.

I dunno... get a nice, well-intentioned, thoughtful, compassionate and caring person with an intellectual disability into office, they'd listen to advisors, work well with others, they wouldn't assume they already know best about every situation... I think it would work out pretty well, to be honest!

You absolutely can ridicule someone's lack of competence, for sure, because competence isn't an inherent trait. Intelligence and competence aren't really causally linked. Sure, someone with an intellectual disability might not be the world's greatest chess player, for example, but for most people with an intellectual disability, with more than an average amount of practice, they can beat an average player.

I think "tripped over his own dick" is fine, that doesn't suggest to me "he's bad because he has mobility issues", it's more like carelessness.

Remember as well that you don't need to be perfect, nobody is acting or expecting that. All we can all do is try our best and if we hurt people, take accountability and apologise to them. No one always gets it right and it's okay to get it wrong, so long as you're not being stubborn and refusing to change because you don't care about the feelings of others, people will be fine with it!

The ableism is coming from inside the house - it's not a bad thing to be intellectually disabled. The problem with Trump is not that he's stupid, it's that he's a selfish, careless, thoughtless, cruel, ignorant asshole.

Using words like "stupid" as an insult implies that all people lacking in intellect or wisdom are also bad people.

An opportunity to share one of my favourite StackOverflow questions of all time!

It's well worth reading through the answers and the comments, but here's a little sampler platter:

This will run for a lot more than hours. Assuming it loops at 1 GHz (which it won't - it will be a lot slower than that), it will run for 10790283070806014188970 years. Which is about 83 billion times longer than the age of the universe.

damn - so maybe serveral threads generating guids is a better idea?

4 threads on a quad core processor would make it run in 20 billion times the age of the universe - so yeah, that would help a lot.
