lemmy users seems to have zero empathy whenever they talk about any non-Western-aligned country and its people

Plex is slow and the menus dont get right to the point

That is true. I also hate having to change each episode separatedly to change subtitle/audio track. Apropos, jellyfin didn't have subtiles download integrated on their menus, has that changed since last year? Not having that means manually downloading and syncronizing subtitles, and life's too short for that kind of drudgery

I’m not sure what features you feel are lacking

As I said, it was about a year ago. I vaguely remember not liking the layout when displayed on my TV, sorting shows/episodes not working correctly, watched list not being properly updated... that and assorted little bugs that finally tired me and I went back to plex

Blocked: vpn detected. Well, not really blocked, but anything that forces me to do images captcha for Google's benefit just isn't worth my time and patience

I'm here on lemmy because I'm a reddit refugee, I spent almost 12 years there but came here when they did their little API shakedown shitshow. Lemmy is good enough for me, despite there being the occasional troll, like you seem to be.

Just go Piracy.

go Servarr or go bust, despite it requiring some amount of tinkering with docker to run smoothly

I tried jellyfin for about a month last year, but it lacked a lot of what I was used to in plex, so I returned to it. But lately plex is really going downhill... has jellyfin improved somewhat in this time frame?

Don't throw away your old PC

Literally first-world problems, right? There's absolutely no need to tell that to someone that don't live on a rich country. Old gear always finds some use or is sold/donated away.

Buy another router that allows you to run openwrt or anything else you fancy, and use the locked-down one just as a gateway to the new one, problem solved. My setup is somewhat similar -- locked-down cable modem router that I can't customize, bought a netgear router, installed freshtomato on it

...but I'm not scared of the command line, in fact I use adb to remove bloat from my phone from time to time. What I said is that majority of people using android aren't like us. But yeah, it's good that tools like those you pointed out exists, I'm sure there is an audience for them
