IoT devices are still prevalent and in many cases they are hard to avoid. This week we look at two cases of IoT breaches that have the potential for danger.

Signal is drawing a hard line on the federal government’s proposed surveillance legislation: comply with Bill C-22 or leave the country. The secure messaging app says it would rather ditch the Canadian market than be forced to weaken the privacy protections it has built its reputation on. In an interview with The Globe and Mail

TL;DR: Between May 2025 and May 2026, Waymo’s recall-scope count of autonomous cabs rose from 1,212 vehicles to 3,791 vehicles.

That is more than a 3x increase in the Waymo fleet size in roughly one year, a major acceleration that dwarfs Tesla's faltering Robotaxi rollout.

At issue is Part 2 of Bill C-22, which would require telecommunication, internet and social media companies to adapt their systems to allow police and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) easier access to data for investigations, provided they have a warrant. It would also require core providers to retain metadata for up to one year.
