Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 4

This November, 17 amendments have been proposed by our legislature (under attack for its similar efforts to kick you out of your own government through racial redistricting) to continue in this strong tradition of taking away opportunity for civic engagement. Don’t let them, and learn what’s on the ballot next month ahead of time (totaling to more than $50 billion in property tax cuts). Fund your public services, and fight back by getting informed on what other unsatisfactory things are going to be added to this work-in-progress document.

[H]is whereabouts and actions in the months leading up to Mr. Thompson’s murder have largely remained a mystery. Some family and friends have said they were unable to reach him starting shortly after he returned from his backpacking trip to Asia, a trip that now appears to have been pivotal for him. [...] Interviews with fellow travelers and local residents, along with a review of Mr. Mangione’s writings and communications, suggest a shift from seeking human connection and community to isolating himself, and becoming increasingly preoccupied with how to make a statement about injustice.

Back when President Donald J. Trump’s second inauguration rolled around, his personal finances were not looking good. The state of New York had declared him a fraud, and fined him $364 million dollars, and the interest was compounding by the minute. There was even talk of Trump Tower getting seized and turned into the Letitia James Center For Kicking Trump Hard In The Nuts!

But what a difference 10 months makes. The president and his family have now made more than $4.5 BILLION dollars since January, thanks to shilling their branded crypto products on an online trading platform called PancakeSwap, administered by the exchange platform Binance.

And what do you know, Trump has just pardoned Binance’s majority owner and founder, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao!

Zhao had pleaded guilty in 2023 to violating the Bank Secrecy Act, for not complying with US anti-money-laundering transaction-reporting requirements. Binance’s safeguards were so lax that countries under sanctions and terrorist groups like Hamas, Al Qaeda, and the Islamic State were able to move money on the platform.

. . . But then Trump got elected, and Zhao hired lobbyist Ches McDowell, a 35-year-old from North Carolina who’d never worked for Congress, the White House, or any other Washington institution. But in 2016 he won an auction to go on a bear hunt with Don Junior, and the two have been friends ever since!

And LOL, the elder Trump got real flustered when Kaitlin Collins asked him about Zhao’s pardon. Trump has no idea who that guy is! Something something Biden autopen.

Myhrvold’s apparent contribution to the birthday book was a letter celebrating the New York financier along with graphic photos depicting sex acts and engorged genitalia of animals. In the letter, Myhrvold allegedly wrote that he took the photos on a recent trip to Africa.

The spokesperson did not address Myhrvold’s note to Epstein in the birthday book or his inclusion in the flight logs.

“Mr. Myhrvold knew him from TED conferences and as a donor to basic scientific research,” the spokesperson said. “He regrets that he ever met him.”

After taking a yearlong sabbatical in 1999, Myhrvold left Microsoft and co-founded Intellectual Ventures, a Bellevue-based investment firm that specializes in intellectual property and patenting. It also has been accused of patent trolling, a practice in which a firm acquires patents and sues over infringement to make money. He serves as the firm’s CEO.

The official noted that many of the boats targeted for strikes by the Trump administration do not even have the requisite gasoline or motor capacity to reach U.S. waters, dramatically undercutting claims by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The claim is backed up by recent comments made by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who similarly noted that zero fentanyl is produced in Venezuela.

Two sources familiar with discussions at the White House note that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a long time proponent of regime change in Venezuela, has been the driving force behind the aggressive military and rhetorical posture toward the Maduro regime.

Chinese Massacre of 1871

Tue Oct 24, 1871

Image

The Chinese Massacre of 1871 was a race riot that occurred on this day in Los Angeles, California when a mob of around 500 white and mestizo people entered Chinatown and attacked, robbed, and murdered Chinese residents.

The massacre took place on Calle de los Negros, also known as "Negro Alley". The mob gathered after hearing that a policeman had been shot and a rancher killed by Chinese immigrants. Historian John Johnson described the ensuing violence as the "largest mass lynching in American history".

An estimated 17 to 20 Chinese immigrants were hanged by the mob in the course of the riot, but most had already been shot to death. At least one was mutilated when someone cut off a finger to get his diamond ring.

Ten members of the mob were prosecuted, eight were convicted of manslaughter. The convictions were overturned on appeal due to various technicalities.

Several states have warned that if the shutdown continues until November, they will be forced to suspend SNAP and WIC benefits, threatening food assistance for millions

Roughly 1.4 million federal workers have either been furloughed and are working without pay as the US enters day 23 of the government shutdown. Washington, DC food banks and religious groups are organizing food distribution for those workers, some of whom are willing to wait for hours on line for groceries amid the crisis.

The shutdown began on October 1, stemming from a standoff between Democratic and Republican lawmakers over upcoming cuts to public healthcare within the Republican Party’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”. It is now on track to be among the longest government shutdowns in US history.

The Democrats contended that the Republican budget bill will undermine essential programs such as Medicaid – the nation’s largest public health insurance program, which provides coverage to over 70 million people. Democratic lawmakers insisted that safeguards for these programs be included in a short-term spending measure, and when Republicans refused, Congress failed to pass a funding bill to avert a government shutdown.

The Trump administration has placed the blame of the shutdown on Democratic lawmakers, labeling it as the “Democrat shutdown”. “TOP DEMOCRATS CHEER OVER Americans’ pain, weaponizing suffering in their twisted political power grab,” the White House wrote on X.

However, the reality is often not as the White House paints it. Since the shutdown began, Trump has instructed the Office of Management and Budget to eliminate 4,000 jobs across eight federal agencies, although a federal judge’s order halted a wave of layoffs. Amid the shutdown, the administration has cancelled or frozen nearly USD 28 billion primarily located in Democratic-led cities, congressional districts, and states. On the first day of the shutdown, Trump froze USD 18 billion in federal funds to projects in New York City alone.

Elizabeth Ann Davis, 61, was convicted Wednesday of two counts of forgery and one count of impersonating an elector for submitting mail ballots for them in the 2022 general election. Voter fraud is generally rare and detectable since the nation’s election processes provide many safeguards, according to current and former election officials.

Voters are required to put their signature on ballots before returning them.

Davis, a Republican, has previously been convicted of forgery and other offenses in Florida and Colorado, a press release from the office of District Attorney George Brauchler said.
