I hope every single one of them realizes that they were used as seat fillers for more culture war bullshit. I’m sure they can see right through these two man-babies for the weak human beings they are and will think twice when they’re asked to do something illegal/immoral for them.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 15 points 13 hours ago

I mean, insofar as Hegseth has internalized the culture war and can't stop being a fox news host long enough to do his job. I think priming the Military to eventually use it against the American population was the main purpose of this gathering.

Mussolini promised the world to his troops, and was seen as a competent soldier himself (I admit I know little on his military prowess). Our regime is led by a diaper wearing, flat footed nepo baby who hired a pretty boy guardsman who spent more time in front of a camera wielding propaganda than he did a rifle to lead our entire military. These generals meanwhile get chastised and left to fix every fuckup generated by the administration with no reward for themselves or the men and women under their command. Then they see any hope of rewards in retirement after decades of service go up in smoke. Yeah, I'm not too worried about them doing illegal actions on US citizens. I'm becoming more afraid of a military coup however. If our balance of power and law becomes obsolete, then they may see it as reason to change the executive power as it stands.

I was kinda hoping that they would have done that coup today and put those two on trial for being enemies of the constitution. The military swears an oath to the constitution and those two knuckleheads were directing the generals to do unconstitutional shit. I’m pretty sure this coup scenario would be better than what is going on currently

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It's much to early to talk about a coup. But when Trump really wants the US military to act against US citizens, I don't think that's an order the military can possibly obey. I think that will be coup time.

I can't believe we're seriously talking about this.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

It’s just all really awful

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The military is not going to do a violence to protect the country unless ordered to do so (by the executive branch) OR a violence is done to them first.

If they’re to be believed they’re honorable / noble enough to want to protect the nation from the president then they’re honorable / noble enough to not act first. So, double edged sword and all that

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Yeah that’s a good point

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

There are 300 million of us lmao you just gotta convince people to remove their representation and replace it with someone competent. Im sure the generals probably believe its not their duty or place and also fear to consequences of turning the USA into a military rule for even a second. It's time to stop praying to a higher power for a miracle and start removing your congress people from office. They can't hide from their voters for ever.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago

Our system is corrupted from top to bottom. The vote harder strategy has failed

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

The problem is, people rarely view their own representative as the problem (as long as it's who they voted for). So if a republican view sees the country going to shut during a republican administration, at best, they'll think it's a bunch of other Republican reps that are messing things up for the person they chose.

[–] Alaik@lemmy.zip 4 points 12 hours ago

Im southern. I absolutely view my congressmen and senators as a problem.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

This country is gerrymandered as shit. A lot of people do view "their" representative as part of the problem, but what recourse do they have when decades of political gamesmanship has made their votes no longer count?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 0 points 11 hours ago

I covered this in my parenthetical...

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

That would mean immediate civil war which would be horrific for everyone. It's a lever that should only be pulled as a last resort

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

They declared war on America yesterday and encouraged the military to commit war crimes against American citizens…..how is that not a declaration of civil war? Genuinely curious

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yesterday was a propaganda event.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I disagree they have done everything they said they would do and were way far down the tyranny rabbit hole

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Imagine if it continues to degrade to the point that Kristi Noem gets put in charge of more branches of armed forces.
