Phones need to be certified for carriers in the US? How does that work?

In the EU, you just buy any phone you want, any sim card you want, put the sim card in the phone, and that's it.

@DupaCycki @Clusterfck@lemmy.sdf.org Europe did the sensible thing and made cell phone towers public infrastructure. In the US, each cell phone company has to construct its own network of towers.
