We went all in on corporate profit over societal progress. It's unsustainable and resources are dwindling. No social programs just drug addiction in a self-medicating world with the rest of the folk sticking their collective heads in the sand. Shame gone, not a lot of respect for people or institutions anymore. A low-level anger that seems to permeate everything. Unstable world politics indicating a revolutionary sea change sometimes in the near future. Maybe major projects will get that money flowing for everyone but I believe it'll be the same old players who know how to use the system. That's most likely just the tip of the iceberg. I believe there is also a lot of good and happiness in the world but more so on an individual level than a societal one.

You sure we're in the same Canada? I mean, sure it's not great and hasn't been for at least 20 years, but it's not the hellscape you're describing either. That, I'm afraid, is in about another 20 years.

If you're in Canada right this minute, then we are in the same Canada. I suspect the reality is closer to my description but we all wear varying shades of rose-coloured glasses and I always allow that I could be utterly and completely wrong in my ramblings.

I think it very much depends on your perspective, and also how old you are. Keep in mind I was 25 when the financial crisis hit. There really hasn't been a decade in my adult life where there hasn't been a once-in-a-lifetime event (I turned 18 and 9/11 hit). If I'm gonna wake up tomorrow with a chip on my shoulder, I have evidence. And if I let all of that shit define me, that chip on my shoulder's gonna be Ontario-sized.
