Sure, but how often does foot-“ball” contact occur? (And I don't mean the players' testicles, I mean that oblong thing the players carry around the field and occasionally throw around).
At some point you've got to be honest with yourself and admit that football isn't an appropriate name for the sport.
Rugby did it, gridiron can too.
Just for the record, and with making no value judgements…to me, gridiron football is just a bunch of dudes in tights chasing other dudes in tights.
Don’t ask me where the “football” comes from.
