Honest question: why the hate for LTT?

Edit: thanks to those who answered. I'm surprised by the downvotes. I'm literally asking to learn your side so I can know about the things they've done wrong and join your cause in protesting against his content. Is my question taken as some sort of support for LTT? WTF

There is a long history but the short version is that Linus Tech Tips has repeatedly been caught doing things in a way that are considered sloppy, dishonest, or downright unethical.

Some examples that come to mind are:

  • In 2023, a former female employee went public with allegations that the reason she had left was because of sexual harassment that went unaddressed.

  • An incident where a small startup company sent them a super expensive prototype for a watercooler for them to test out. This item was just on loan given the startup’s limited finances and the effort taken to make the prototype. LTT made a video on the cooler and then didn’t return it. Then they put it into an auction for charity. So they didn’t profit directly (other than publicity for charity work), it seemed like they basically stole the prototype from this small company after agreeing to return it.

  • After that, they were called out for the scandal involving Honey - some company that basically was scamming content creators. LTT had apparently advertised for them and then later discovered it was a scam. Instead of saying anything, LTT just went silent until others figured it out and called them out. Their response was something like “we thought the backlash would be too bad to say anything.”

I’m sure there is more if you care to search for it, but basically multiple episodes that don’t put them in a good light.

Also, their PC component tesing methods (watch gamersnexus about that) some of their Videos are literal advertising

Or, as a prime example: linus has made multiple videos intentionally trying to make Linux look bad, by doing things like loading up SteamOS on unsupported hardware or generally doing things the wrong way, failing at it horribly, and saying that, because he was unable to google and had to do stupid shit, Linux is not good.

Those videos show everything wrong in 1 compact format:

  • doing no/bad research

  • sending slop out to the internet without correcting themselves

  • not correcting themselves when called out

  • generally acting in bad faith

  • except when they're being payed by dyson or some other product manufacturer to make a blatant ad, of course

I am not asking for them to be perfect at Linux. I'm just asking one of the biggest tech media groups to do a very simple thing, that being correcting or even just mentioning easily accessible information, for example a simple

  • hey guys, editor from the off, apparently, SteamOS is only made for the steamdeck and not for full nvidia GPUs. If you want to use Linux on one of these, use a general distribution

Just imagine a Bringus studios receipt printer gaming video, but instead he blames Windows for not booting 64 bit

Thank you for this comment it is a great summary of the “sloppy” work I alluded to but didn’t describe because I couldn’t remember the specifics.

Dude treats his employees like trash among other things.
