Voter turnout by mail exceeded 30% in at least 14 states and D.C. Trump won half of those states, most of which have Republican governors or secretaries of state overseeing elections.

Trump indicated that he could act unilaterally and abolish mail-in balloting through an executive order ahead of the 2026 midterms. It’s a method of voting that accounted for 30% of all votes cast during the 2024 general election, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, an independent and bipartisan government group.

Voter turnout by mail exceeded 30% in at least 14 states and the District of Columbia, according to the most recent data available. Trump won half of those states, most of which have Republican governors or secretaries of state overseeing elections. Others, like Arizona and Michigan, have Democrats overseeing elections but are major electoral battlegrounds.

He doesn't have the cult of personality behind him.

True, but his brain also isn’t pudding, and he is an evil mercenary motherfucker. Peter thiel pulls his strings. Of the billionaire class, I feel like Thiel does a shockingly good job of mostly flying under the radar considering how evil and techno-feudalist he is. He’s not a good person to have controlling the presidency by a single layer of abstraction.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Yeah but we would be past all the Trump distraction, we could just hammer on JD and his Thiel connections all day, it's not like old money really likes them, they just like the tax breaks. JD is very unlikeable.

I legitimately think he’d be worse, because he has all his mental faculties, and he is an evil mercenary fascist ~~mother~~couchfucker

America will go from invading Greenland to invading the Ottoman empire instead.

Tbh he’d still probably try to invade Greenland

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I'm not sure what WOULDN'T be an improvement

Smedley Butler described an election conducted in Nicaragua where an unannounced polling station was opened up for just two hours and select voters were bussed in to vote. We aren't that far away from that.

Colorado has had mail-in voting for years and years. Wouldn't be surprised to see the cons try for having states with mail-in voting that went for Taco continue to have mail-in voting and the blue states punished by NOT having it.

Having something so common sense like being able to fill out a ballot at your complete leisure and then, with zero waiting, either drop it off at a collection location or in a mailbox cannot be overstated. I've voted in places w/o it and have stood in line for nearly an hour in one case, and was hours late to work that day.

The idea that some have to stand in line, for hours, and only have one day to vote, in the supposed best country in the world, is simply absurd.

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 22 points 6 days ago

I'm sure they'll find some way to allow it for just the specific states that would help him because these fuckers don't give a shit about democracy or appearing as being the least bit fair

[–] FrankFrankson@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Another issue with Trump banning mail in voting is how he doesn't have the power to do that but why point that out when mainstream media can keep being fucking worthless instead?

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You didn't read it, did you?

[–] FrankFrankson@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I read it and they still treat it like it's a debate if Trump has the power to do this as opposed to an obvious overreach and they don't even memtion it till 3 or 4 paragraphs in.

If any other president did this the title would have words like tyranny in it and the entire article would be dedicated to how it's unprecedented and reprehensible.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Are you new? Did you just wake up from a coma? Trump has been doing things he doesn't have the power to since he got back in. Don't use that as a reason it won't happen.

[–] FrankFrankson@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

You are either replying to wrong commemt or you need to reread what I wrote.
