Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The US House speaker, Mike Johnson, has developed a go-to response when asked about something controversial Donald Trump or members of his administration said or did.

It’s some version of “I don’t know anything about that.”

This guy is one of the most gaslighty of all these motherfuckers. Feigning ignorance and acting like he's just some innocent choir boy looking out for all of America and he never heard nuthin' about all the bad stuff his cohorts are up to.

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 2 hours ago

“I know nuzzing!”

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 hours ago

The useless shit probably knows that the main reason he's in his job is as assassination insurance.

[–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

This guy knows more about his son's masturbatory habits than the guy he is 2nd in line to replace.

[–] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 58 points 2 days ago (2 children)

These guys are payed way too much to say “I don’t know” this often.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Seriously, if there's this many things about their direct line of work that they don't know, maybe they should find another line of work.

[–] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sometimes I say this at work, but you can be damn sure the second time that question is asked, I’m prepared.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

At my first IT job (which was help desk/sysadmin), during onboarding I was told "it's not okay to say 'I don't know' unless you follow it up with 'but I will find out.'"

[–] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

I like that. I will probably use that one.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Essentially, that is what they're being paid for.

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I do not understand why no one has asked him if he isnt keeping up with current events in the government how can he be an effective leader of the house?

I know the answer is simply he is there to rubber stamp anything Trump wants but someone needs to ask him a hard question. Hell even follow up the next day like "you said you hadnt seen Trump call Americans garbage yesterday now that you have had a day care to respond?"

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 hours ago

Ask him. He'll probably answer "I don't know."

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I'm gone to need your press pass, and your network is now under investigation by the appropriate regulatory authority.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They just don't answer and then that reporter is never allowed to ask questions again.

The media is thus a handy tool to legitimize their bullshit.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

It still is if they just never ask in that case. They should be asking.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Middle management attempt to compartmentalize and avoid any accountability at all.

"This is the first time I'm hearing about that." "I was unaware that had been occurring."

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 days ago

They better learn to make it believable. Trump won't hesitate to throw them under the bus and will claim it was their fault for not stopping him when they knew what he was doing.

Mike Johnson is a shitweasel of a person and a wretched little man.

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sorry to be petty, but I just cannot get over the way Mike Johnson looks in every photograph. He looks like an implausibly on-the-nose caricature of a pederast. He looks like the kind of dude who sews a hole in his pants pocket so he can touch himself during meetings. He looks like he’s constantly coated in flop sweat and distracted by the possibility that someone’s going to discover the kiddie porn dungeon at his house. That guy is just fuckin’ weird. Sorry, but the photo on this post just sent me over the edge.

[–] nwtreeoctopus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

There's a reason that particular caricature exists and you react the way you do. Your response is a defense mechanism to keep your community safe. The dude is in the pedo-uncanny valley.

[–] ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Collectively they know he's nuts, but look how fast MTG got ousted for saying so and we'll...

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Psssh, she wasn't ousted, she quit the second she was eligible for lifetime pension benefits. She's a lazy piece of white trash bilking the system, just like she and her kind love to complain about.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 15 points 2 days ago

She got out, got her money, can claim she stood up against pedophilia and tyranny so her ass is covered when the whole trump thing falls apart, and she can just write book deals and play stocks for the rest of her fucking life and she’ll be rich forever.

GOD DAMN do I ever hate this system.

[–] macaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She has to be 62 to get pension at 5 years. At 51 she needs 20 years. It’s probably Trump saying she’s a traitor. She can dish but she can’t take heat.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

She wanted to run for Senate, but PEDOnald refused to endorse her, so now she wants to burn it down on her way out.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Ignorance is BS

I see what you did there, Guardian.

Whether he really knows or doesn't: it's bullcrap anyhow.
It shows the authoritarian structure that is to replace everything. Being responsible in your job was never desired. Let alone being qualified.
Having people like him on the totem pole is a win-win for everybody higher up.
