Foreign owned firms are the second best option to Canadian owned firms. A canadian footprint, in design, engineering and manufacturing is...not as bad as it could be.

Better yet, Canadians buy those firms and bring it all back home.

Canada has been economically colonized. Governments of the past have allowed far too many Canadian businesses to be bought by foreign entities. If a Canadian company is going to collapse without foreign capital, maybe it should collapse. Or maybe they could be nationalized and reprivatized into viable businesses. Slapping a maple leaf on a company doesn't stop money from leaving Canada.

Canada is a foreign-owned resource extraction colony. Successful Canadian companies or manufacturers either get bought by foreign interests or killed off. There's a reason so much of our economy is selling raw materials instead of making things with them and selling the products instead.

I mean...we do have this Stellantis case going on. While not the same kind of scenario, but they better have something in place to ensure they don't just "run away" if it's a non-Canadian own firm.

On the other hand, it's appalling how every single government project seems to be always over budget, underdelivered and/or delayed. Then when I go look at the big government projects that's around the world, compare to what we got, I always feel like we got scammed.

If our governments always choose the lowest bidder who fills out the RFP with right words, we're always going to get lowballers who change request the project into oblivion. And then if the management style focuses more on making sure people are in the office (so nearby crony businesses can optimize their profits, and incompetent managers can think they're in control) instead of focusing on streamlining and effectively running the delivery processes, it is inevitable projects will be late, incorrect, and over budget.

I know right? It's like as if we have no semblance of control with politicians at the helm. OR I think it's just that people that are making the decisions of who the contracts go to have no knowledge nor are they qualified to actually make the call.

They do a lot for consumer products and even food.

If the actual product or food item from a foreign country is cheaper than the packaging which was produced in Canada ... it can technically be said to be from Canada.

It's always a guessing game to try to figure out where some of these things are made and produced.
