Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

We can only hope that old Lindsey Graham quote is true,
"If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed ... and we will deserve it."

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 28 points 2 days ago

It would be great if he could be correct about something, just this once.

Unfortunately, the "we" in that sentence applies to the whole nation at this point.

We are literally seeing the decline of an empire. America's last days are ahead. When we abandon representation and abandon rule-of-law the way we have, we have no future.

Not saying we shouldn't redistrict in response, we literally have to in order to keep states from being bullied into submission, but this process, as it snowballs, will be one of the most pivotal points that students will have to understand in the history books.

Except it feels like the opposite is happening. I mean, here he is at round 2 of a presidency. Nobody learned anything, and there's certainly not been any destruction. Everything has been swept under the rug.

[–] mrslt@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

certainly not been any destruction

Tell that to the US's global reputation.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I'm thinking more against the actors perpetrating it. They just keep skating by.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

It will eventually come true, but the U.S. is going to suffer a lot of pain before it happens.

When gerrymandering was in the news 15 years ago, I was frustrated at how little was done to make things fair again.

Now I don't care. Fuck it. Destroy the conservative right.

Seriously! All I've seen from the right is outright, obvious lies & pedophiles. I don't care about going high anymore, it doesn't work when legit 1 third of the country is willingly watching propaganda. Kick em in the nuts, poke their eyes, throw salt in their face, use every sorry trick they did. Don't listen when they whine and cry. Just point and laugh, and say "what dafuq you gunna do about it bitch?"

Californian here.

Hope we can just run these fucking pedo rapist supporters out of our state like the fascists they are. If they like Texas so much, they can go there. They just have to let the women in their lives know that they'll lose rights the moment they cross the border into Texistan.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a Texan: Please no, we have far too many already.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When the country finally splits apart, and Texas becomes independant, we'll have to run airlifts to send enough supplies to keep Austin weird

oh that ship has sailed

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Don’t spoil the surprise for them

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

Westside Represent!

[–] Stillwater@sh.itjust.works 44 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's tit for tat for repubs stealing seats in Texas. If they dont like it they shouldnt have done it.

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 22 points 2 days ago

They're playing 1D chess over there.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

They could also try representing their constituents.

Just a thought.

[–] octopus_ink@slrpnk.net 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

some see 'extinction level event' if party loses

Oh no! Won't someone think of the fascists!

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)
[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 days ago

Fuck. We can only hope they extinctify themselves in an on-brand tantrum. Ugh. Fuckem.

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

Hang in there, Boomer!

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 25 points 2 days ago
[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope its an extinction level event for them.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If it's not, it'll be an extinction level event for all of us.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Theres a reason those rich shits are building doomsday bunkers.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's also a reason I'll be blocking their air vents with cement.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Make sure to toss in some anthrax for good measure.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Oh no did you play with redistricting fire not realizing you might get burned 😢

[–] Glide@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 days ago

Then move to Texas, where the Democrats can't even put up a fight so Republicans run unopposed in many races. No shade on them though, it costs time and money to do things and the government actively goes after Democrats running for anything, accusing them of malfeasance at every step.

You got rid of kings and low taxes and where did that bring you...

Are you actually advocating for monarchy?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That's a nice safe seat you have there. It'd be a shame if your election became competitive...

[–] _chris@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's an excellent ad for our side.
