Literally. the fact that nobody talks about the school shooting that happened IN THE EXACT SAME DAY, is maddening af.

[–] Guitarfun@lemmy.world 54 points 3 days ago (3 children)

My prediction is that those who would normally seek the infamy that school shooters used to receive will see the amount of attention people have given this case and the healthcare CEO's murder and murdering public figures will become the new trend.

Yep there's a whole underground movement of people that are basically pro-school shooting online. They consider themselves part of the lineage that started with the Columbine shooters. It's sick shit, but nobody has done a damned thing to tamper down on it and like other fringe groups they've found each other online and are networking.

Media coverage about school shooters became somewhat better in that they at least don't get into every seedy detail about the lives of the killers, but this other type of killer has been seeing a different type of coverage entirely. It stands to reason that they'll start to see this as the better path toward infamy.

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was reading about those groups and they seem to be an intentional project by neonazis more than a genuine underground movement. The movement is actually a front for drawing in and weaponizing people, mostly lonely and depressed children.

Trying to trigger a race war? Could be.

Edit: their stupid little race war which never happens because most people aren't as racist as they are

This doesn't surprise me. I spent time on 4chan years ago and saw some extremely disturbing opinions and conversations. I could definitely see how mentally disturbed individuals could find each other in forums or channels and start an underground movement. I've always thought that these types of online movements were psyop campaigns either by Russia or another foreign country to cause American unrest.

I'll take it.

Trolley problem right here. I want to save the group of kids, every time.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

So, finally some good news.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There's some Lemmy commenters who say "Well Kirk was a big deal where we get school shootings every day" and it's fucking maddening.

[–] SorryQuick@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Well that’s exactly why this is getting so much attention.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 56 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

Because this is violence that is not acceptable to the ruling class. It is violence against the ruling class. The first grader is a child of the working class. That type of violence is what is "acceptable" to people like Charlie Kirk.

That's what his famous quote about accepting a number of gun deaths every year actually means. He was never including himself in that context.

These people tell you what they believe. You just need the lense of class conflict to view their words through.

[–] MyNameIsIgglePiggle@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's just the most leopards ate your face moment when you say a handful of deaths is acceptable and you are in them.

Should changed the phrase leopards ate your face to being "kirked"

Man he got kirked so hard

I feel a Kirk coming...

Etc

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 3 points 3 days ago

You leave James T Kirk outta this!

[–] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just like Luigi, they still bring him up from time to time. 9ish school shooting this year in the USA, but but but Luigi!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

news stopped talking about Luigi, the moment it started hurting thier culture wars distractions.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

its also one of thier own that they cultivated, nurtured groom to be a violent against the left.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 66 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

"Moved on by now" here means "probably wouldn't even have heard about it." At least we can take comfort knowing that, unlike the first-grader, Charlie would've surely been proud to know he was a sacrifice on the altar of the Second Amendment.

[–] unconsequential@slrpnk.net 54 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Matthew Silverstone and another minor remain hospitalized, they were both shot at school the same day as Kirk. Their attacker was a right wing radicalized 16 year old who followed white supremicist ideology. I will not name said person. Only that they were following neo-nazis white supremacists and that may be reflected in who they chose to target. But not a peep anywhere and it appears no updates in a few days.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Uh, haven't you heard? Calling Nazis what they are is the ACTUAL thing that causes violence. It's not the Nazis. They are just giving very "common sense" political views.

I wish this wasn't what actual people in the media are saying but it is. I'm losing my mind listening to it. I need to read some Parenti or something to bring some sanity back to my head. I can't keep listening to this media "debate".

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

the gop cant publicize, or report on mass shooters being republicans, because they wont be able to create a narrative shooter=leftist, trans person.

thats why they are astroturfing the right wingeer groyper that shot a charlie kirk as a trans-loving leftist.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bunch of kids died right after and conservatives shrugged and kept talking about Kirk

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

news needs a distraction from epstein files.

The reason everyone would have moved on already is because, by now, an identical crime would have already occurred somewhere else, all part of the tide of violence perpetrated by those who continue to turn a blind eye to mental illness and access to weapons of mass-casualty (because, make no mistake, it is not solely those who pulled a trigger who are responsible for those deaths). If america is going to move on, then someone would need to do this again and again, in a neverending cascade of Nazis being shot with ruthless efficiency, just like what happens to our children. Then, surely, the country will just move on to the next tragedy with thoughts and prayers, like they do with school shootings, right?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 3 days ago

trump already moved on, why are the supporters so fixated on KIRK. he already changed the subject to his glorious ballroom construction.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 15 points 3 days ago

The left has given Mr Kirk the thoughts and prayers he deserved.

I don't understand what else do they want?

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

1st grader???????

[–] workerONE@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Then start talking about how we need gun control, they will take their usual position

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

Well ya, that would have just been a Tuesday.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 days ago

Thoughts and prayers

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 3 days ago

How many kids equals one Kirk?

[–] sausager@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I've moved on. Who gives a fuck

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

trump already moved on the moment he wasnt useful anymore.

[–] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm more disappointed than anything. I'm disappointed that he got killed the way he did. I'm disappointed that the left cheered for it. I'm disappointed the right treated him as if he was Jesus. I'm disappointed that school shootings have become so normalized. However, nothing disappoints me more than knowing that nothing is going change because my fellow Americans don't give a fuck about all this needless violence.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

i give left a pass, when the right have been cheering every time a democrat is shot, or murdered, or a black executed by the police. Also someone like charlie kirk should not be honored, he helped spread and violence in millions of young americans, its stepping stone to moving further right than he is.

[–] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

If you're condemning and condoning the same behavior based on whether or not you like/agree with the person, then you don't believe in the underlying principle at all. Simple put, you care more about your political team getting one in on the other team than maintaining a civil society.

[–] thunder@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh I give a fuck about gun violence, but I live in a red state that is gerrymandered to hell and with all kinds of voter suppression. What can I do about it?

[–] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Get in touch with your local activist groups, and help them organize meaningful opposition.
