Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

In every competitive game I've played, I'm at best above average by their ranks. Whatever their choice of names, I can only go above the one in the middle.

Those micro precise mouse movements they do, perfectly timed keyboard taps or amazingly accurate controller turns are completely beyond me.
And I'm ok with that, because I report them all for cheating anyway.

More like:

"You have 4000 hours in this game. You must really like it!"

"Not really."

That's me with Factorio. I don't really like crack anymore, I just have to do it a bunch now or I get the shakes.

[–] nialv7@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

me too, me too 🥲

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yes I have 3000 hours in game but I also have another 4000 hours in a third party build planning software, searching a database and a wiki, and watching Youtube videos to understand mechanics and builds.

no I'm still not very good.

No but kinda, I think I've only got like 1k hrs in Factorio and probably only 200 hrs doing external research for it. I'm v much a Factorio baby, I don't think I even made it to all the planets last time I played.

Me in Warframe. Can't even do level 3000 enemies for fuck's sake.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bias you weapons more toward crits. Also, depending on the enemy faction, slash and viral can also be really helpful as they ignore armor/shields.

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've used Xoris since I was mr 3, now I'm lr 5. It does well with crits and status imo. Xoris does especially well when there's like 40 enemies standing right next to each other. The damage is fine, it's the survivability. I use Hildryn Prime with primed redirection and arcane aegis, works well enough before the damage gets too high. I could try shield gating with some other frames, but I don't really feel like it tbh.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

have you heard about our new lord and saviour Arcane Persistance? You generally also need a method of good health recovery, but it makes health tanks super viable and honestly quite comfy for level cap content. I now prefer healthtanking over shieldgating for stuff like maxed Void Cascade fissures.

Hildryn is unfortunately just not very good for really high level stuff. Her quirk of her shields being her energy means you can't regain your shields with Pillage when they get inevitably one-tapped late game.

also there's always Revenant, if you just want boring old immortality with no fuss.

I managed to reach 1.5mil average in damage with Atlas' fists. Ivara while stealthed can reach 10mil, but only on shots to the face. Red crit stacks are a really big deal.

If you're having fun, it doesn't matter.

Rocket league players know...

Playing Amazing Cultivation Simulator, bro hasn't even made it through the early game.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

There's more game then the first hour? Liar

[–] razen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I spent almost 2 years playing valorant because that was the only modern game which worked on my PC but damm I never even crossed Diamond it was i guess or maybe Gold I dont remember. I understood that competitive gaming is not for me. No rank pushing and all can be done by me. Switched to story mode game like Far Cry1 or 2, i dont remember but used to get nausea while playing for around 10-20 mins after that i just completely stopped playing games.

Hi I've played Silver in Overwatch for nearly 10 years now. Witness me!!

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 5 points 2 days ago

I was always really good in games like overwatch. I'm not super competitive in general, but i climbed to masters a few times when i tried. I played a bit of marvel rivals too and it was the same. Then i started playing Deadlock, and i think i'm just fine with forever silver there.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

Probably wouldn't have 3000+ hours, if you just waltzed through the whole thing. Like, that's boring when it's no challenge anymore.

[–] elevenbones@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

Starbreak vibes :(

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Up until a few weeks ago, I played overwatch almost daily since overwatch 1 launch. I struggle to stay in platinum ranks. I can shot call and coach better than play it.

This is me in Path of Titans. I have 100+ hours and have yet to get a single PVP kill. There is a big skill delta; many players have been playing for years and I am just rubbish at playing with joysticks.

[–] Crazyslinkz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Look, half of it is afk, and trying to balance a virtual life on real life is time consuming.

[–] Juice@midwest.social 2 points 3 days ago

Executor just got buffed, I am ascendant

I'm a one man tank in Halo multiplayer. I have 25 points and my team have like 4 points.

[–] AdrianTheFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

i have played halo infinite a lot (~200 hrs, not that much but my highest fps game) and the way its designed it always pairs me with people who are pretty evenly matched, with occasional ones outside of the norm. which is fine for moment-to-moment gameplay but takes away any sense of how good I actually am compared to the average (and any sense of progression that could come with that)

Thats me with Dead By Daylight
