Nazis extremely dislike it when you call out their hate.

All you have to do to piss off a nazi is to point out the last few things that they did. They're not grounded in reality at all. That's why they're so dangerous.

He just apologized for saying that Kirk called for the stoning of gays, which wasn't technically true.

I dont get it, he literally advocated for stoning gays, calling it "God's perfect law"

No no. He was, “just saying,” not advocating. Completely different.

I for one “just say” things all the time even though I don’t mean them. It’s a bit like Tourette’s really.

I hated Kirk as much as the next Lemmy user but I think he's right to apologize. He parroted a technically-incorrect statement and the right thing to do is to acknowledge it. The world has become wayyyy too ok with "close enough" and "sounds true" attacks.

As soon as a rumor starts, a meme is "made" with every applicable template. I watched it happen real time in the comments of a now-deleted misinformation post about the Kirk shooting. Those memes are surely still circulating despite being proven false and 99% of people aren't gonna fact check.

Children getting shot in schools so often we're numb, but when one guy who told us to be numb about it gets shot and you're not sad, you're fired.
