Dude was able to evade the FBI for nearly 48 hours and he's still hanging out in Utah?
right.
It is very likely that he fully expected to have been killed after the shooting, and so he didn't have a long-term plan for survival.
Edit: Now that they've caught him, it seems he did have a plan: to carry the secret into old age. So then he immediately went and started telling his friends that he did it.
