Placing PS1 that way is atrocious

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 month ago (2 children)

PS2 also developed laser issues if used that way, I can't recall PS3

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (5 children)

ps2 developed laser issues regardless. i've tuned and cleaned so many of those. should have charged but i liked my friends.

Some of us had to play ours upside down after the laser got all jank or something

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Haha yup. My OG PlayStation only worked upside down.

Hell, the PS5 is shown vertical but with the stand in the horizontal configuration. The PS2 and PS4 also had stands available because they weren't stable on their side out of the box, and the systems aren't shown with them. Unsure about the PS3.

When it would wear out putting it like that would extend it's use before being repaired/replaced.

This was my first console! We had the massive text to speech thing that went on top and mispronounced all the curse words we typed in.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Also my first console, though I don't remember a TTS module. The only thing we used the keyboard for was word scramble I think. I was very young at the time lol.

Still have no clue how my parents got one, or why. My guess is off the back of a truck.

i’m still impressed by the ps5 design, i never would’ve thought a console could look pretentious

[–] artifex@piefed.social 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I love the industrial design of the PS2 so much. It has all of that optimistic futurism look of the late 90s/early 2000s.

[–] brap@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Similar reason for the 4. Loved it. The 5 just looks proper stupid in my opinion.

Or Seattle, this one is a little on the nose:

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The only one I ever owned was 2. I could never afford the others when they launched and didn't care enough once the price dropped because I had too much going on in life.

I wanted the PS5 but I think it's seen price hikes like many other electronics, right?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Costco sometimes has sales.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Yes. Every console since the Switch has only gone up in price.

This angle really highlights that PS4 was the best design by far

[–] yuri@pawb.social 8 points 1 month ago

there’s a slim ps2 knocking on your door right now

The PS2 era really felt special. So many iconic games and memories from that generation.

[–] Atomic@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably because a ridiculous amount of games were produces for the PS2. I don't think any console, ever, has had that many games made for it.

Started all the way left and have had every one but the 5 pro.

Damn the first two were some halcyon days. The PS2 was my introduction to staying up and hitting the refresh button on some site called amazon to buy one at launch. I still remember the feeling of the buy going through.

Sigh.

I only bought the 4 and 5 new, but I collect retro games and have all 5 base models. I used to pick them up on eBay or at garage sales back in the day. I remember that feeling of winning a bid (I didn't have a lot of money for it, so it took a while).

Playstations weren't my consoles growing up - I went from Nintendo systems to Xbox, but I still played them a lot at friends' houses.

I hate when they stand the psone on its side.

Alright, they fucked up the scale on the 4, no way it's smaller than the 1

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Definitely, it's a lower height than the PS1 but much wider/longer.

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Ive owned and played 1, 2, 3.

By the time 4 was out I had a bangin gaming pc, always had a computer but never a top of the line like I did at around 2010.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 7 points 1 month ago

not for long

None of the above, I started on the PSone.

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I hope 6 is another boxy one. They seem to alternate, curvy - boxy - curvy - boxy - curvy (maybe not the original PS, but there is a big circle on top you can’t see in this picture)

Yeah, I'd count the original as curvy for this pattern. It was never meant to stand up like this.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago (4 children)

The one that's missing in the picture

Personally owned as an adult? PS2. They were so hard to come by at launch, but I justified the purchase as it also doubled as a not so good DVD player, which was also starting to catch on in popularity.

This would be my nephews first console experience as kids. Then the PS3 delayed launch, so I got the XBOX 360. Many 360’s later (red ring of death) and availability of the PS3 slim, I switched back. Also had a Wii. Multiple PS3 slim, PS3 super slims and lots of teen gaming sessions leading up to PS4’s and the kids now young adults migrated to PC gaming instead.

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The original fat PS2 had a compartment you could store your drugs in. My friend knew someone who kept their tabs of acid in there.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

Sega master system II

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Between my PS2, 3, and 5, I've got them all covered.

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

Could also be various shavers

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I've had them all (no pros) and probably won't be getting another, judging by the way the industry is going.
