Umbrellas are for people who don't wear jackets with hoods. Also jackets with hoods are fire people who don't use umbrellas. It's a circular economy, really.

I don't get umbrellas; Whenever it's raining enough to need one, it's too windy to use one.
Umbrellas make more sense in places that expect rain most days.
I feel like in those places a good raincoat actually makes more sense than an umbrella.
Walk under a spot where it's raining harder? What does that mean? It's raining but there are spots of unmoving harder rain that you can walk under? What?
Walk under the edge of an awning or roof, where the runoff is coming down.
Here in the Pacific Northwest we don't use umbrellas. We are practically amphibious.
While it's neat to feel the rain bounce off your umbrella, it also means your umbrella wears off faster.
And in this economy...
