California governor files freedom of information request after federal agents appeared at redistricting press briefing

California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has filed a request for information from the Trump administration over border patrol agents’ appearance at a news conference he hosted on Thursday.

In a statement, Newsom said the presence of federal agents at his press briefing in Los Angeles was “intended to intimidate those defending a fair electoral process”.

Dozens of armed and masked agents descended on the Japanese American National Museum’s National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, where Newsom was announcing a redistricting plan for California, in a raid widely condemned by the governor’s fellow Democrats.

Newsom is an asshole… but he’s also one of the vanishingly few politicians that actually seems willing to fucking do ANYTHING to push back against orangeboi and the fascists.

I think the appropriate reaction to this obvious intimidation tactic is for Newsom to order the CA NG to provide security to voting locations and political events like this that are likely targets of the regime. Yes, that could be construed as escalatory, but West Virginia and three other states sending their fucking troops to DC is also escalatory. So sure, I guess we’re playing that game now. Fucking hell.

I fear we are escalating toward a civil war. I don't see any way around it. The blue governors need to take control of the NG now and activate them for state duty.

That's Russia's plan. Avoiding that would be better and is still doable. Buuuut.... That's up to politicians and direct action. So it isn't looking good.

Yeah, some of us might wanna start actionable planning for escaping to a blue(r) state/location... 🥹

I think you’re right. I also think one side (the not-fascists) refuse to see or understand that, and it’s starting to look a whole fucking lot like the vast majority of them are going to surrender without any real fight - legal, political, or otherwise. And yes, “otherwise” is definitely doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence.

We need to goad Cory Booker into competition. He is also a whore willing to do anything for the Presidency. And he also is delusional enough to think he's the guy.

I would be almost as depressed if Booker was the DNC’s Chosen One.

Which is an oblique way of saying “I want the DNC to never again be able to simply anoint a candidate and effectively steamroll the primary process, and I am sick to fucking death of neoliberal corporatist candidates being held up as The Best Of The Left, because they’re very fucking clearly not”.

To be clear they both suck but I believe they can be useful if they think being useful might make them president. They want it like JD Vance wants that oval office couch.
