It depends on context. You can tell a mate to get stuffed and basically anything else, but a stranger may not like to be told it, unless you've quickly come to good terms and they were going anyway. It's a little compared I guess. Don't try it unless you know what you are doing!
Reminds me of a movie I saw recently, Swinging Safari, it takes place in Australia in the late 70s and it's absolutely hilarious.
